    that's one of the theories floating around. would have to be a mighty sinkhole. the building codes for beach front/water front construction is pretty insane.. pounding big pilings deep into the ground as part of the foundation.

    nope. was plenty acclimated to heat until the mid 90s thanks to growing up in Miami. in 97 i lived in orlando for a year and that was enough of my taint sweating... being close to the equator sucks. it's like the sun is 6ft over your head. the west is a different kind of heat.. that dry hot garbage wind baking the surface causing plumes of rising hot air that then deflect back to the ground. my health conditions do not make me super durable so heat extremes are more anxiety inducing than typical. but i can usually rally if i'm well hydrated. rambling. sorry. but if there's a nuclear war i don't have big desire to still be around slogging through the wastes... well.. at least there wouldn't be capitalism. just some kind of flesh barbarism barter system.

    lol. i'll wait for the ancient aliens crew to figure this one out. surely it's not just a hole in the ground but has some disturbance to prevent drones from flying it. ? i think it looks pretty fascinating as geological thing and if it was in a different country i'm sure someone would go repel into it or go spelunking or something.. anyway... seems not as ominous as the 'door to hell' but what do i know. ps the music for this is not nearly as suitable or uh.. good as the nice tunes in the OP video.

    the comments mentioning "my idiot coworker" and relatives and all the people saying they aren't getting vaccinated is just sad and cringe... in regards to many things.. in this reddit post.. if the delta variant takes over as expected these people will all get sick. it's very transmissible even more so than the other very transmissible variants.     they actually just upped the predictions and some places east of the cascade mtn range it might hit 120 degrees. we had a week similar to this in 2008 i think. i stayed in my basement w/the AC on. after about 6 months in this house i invested in central AC even though only need it about 30 days a year it's been worth it and i hope that little unit keeps chugging along and keeps my 'climate anxiety' at a minimum.

    that graph. ugh. getting mega heat week in the west and looks like we're going to have one of those summers here in the PNW like back in 2008ish when it was 107 and stayed above 100 for a week. there's already 2 fires burning.
