  1. That's interesting; are you sure they use the term in the Tarkowskyan sense and not just as a more general term for "exclusion zone" or "fallout zone"? In any case, it really is one of the best movies ever made. If you haven't already, please also read the aptly titled Zona by the ever brilliant Geoff Dyer for an in-depth, almost frame-by-frame analysis.
  2. Yeah, I've been thinking about gerting the remastered version and doing just that. I have very fond memories of that game, and not all of them involve giraffes. Don't have lots if sparetime as it is, but I think I might do it anyway. The sequel would probably be just as enjoyable without doing it, but I'm just wired that way. How many hours will you need, you reckon?
  3. Haha, I'll remind you at the end of the year. This is kind of IDM too: https://www.lego.com/de-de/aboutus/news/2020/june/lego-mindstorms-robot-inventor
  4. Whities is no longer Whities *scratches head*
  5. I still love the tumbler, but seeing the two side by side, I was surprised how much more sophisticated and slick the new model looks. I mean, they're different models, and the tumbler is more clunky by nature, but still, I think a new version would look significantly different. Say what you will about Lego, but they always keep evolving, and five or six years make quite a difference when it comes to details. The 1989 Batmobile was a pretty demanding build too, I even made one or twice mistakes and had to retrace quite a bit, doesn"t happen to me that often. Very much fun though. Speaking of which, I have been pretty busy this week. This was a very nice building experience too. The second pic is of my favorite section in the instructions. That alone must have cost me like 45 minutes. ?
  6. Nice ride, but mine is pretty cool to. It only comes in black though. Or very very dark grey.
  7. This. Unfortunately, I only bought mine after it was too late, i. e. I had the mother of all spinal disc herniations after literally working my ass off for a couple of years. That was some freaky shit, I was already starting to lose all feeling from the waist down. Creepy as fuck. Hadn't known you could end up in a wheelchair just from sitting, even though it's kind of consequential, I guess. So anyway, should have gotten it years earlier. Buy one today, kids.
  8. Yeah, that is one of my pet peeves as well. Personally, I was skipping through the whole thing with baited breath and trembling fingers, my face growing longer and longer as I looked for a new WipeOut. Sorry, guys, that's the platform seller I'm gonna need. No WipeOut, no deal. I'm not in a rush anyway. A new Oddworld game is always welcome, but not that much of a priority, and it didn't look like it would add a lot to the concept. I feel like many of the games in the presentation were directed more towards the Asian market, and as usual the best games are going to come out in two or three year's time, as the developers familiarize themselves with the platform.
  9. Finally got around to seeing Uncut Gems. I liked how it sustained the sense of everything just continually going down the drain, even if some things seemed a little far-fetched. A bit disjointed all in all, could have been 20 minutes shorter, and I saw the ending coming. Despite all this, I felt entertained. Dialogues were good. Edit: Music by OPN was good too, and whoever picked that Gigi D'Agostino song for the end credits is a genius. Perfect fit.
  10. I like how the segment is called "Crazy Ass White People" but the intro shows only two men in total, one of whom seems to be Asian. The flight attendant was actually pretty cool; he seemed to be laughing half the time and looking at his colleague like "WTF is going on here?" White Bitch clearly had a couple of Bloody Marys too much. The dog whimper at the end was a nice touch. All in all, 5,4/10, would not watch a third time.
  11. Hm, maybe change the dough recipe accordingly? Use less yeast or something? (Sorry, not an expert.) Or just sell it to people as some new kind of deep dish.
  12. There are surely people who handle this better than me, but yeah, I mean we're just getting flooded with stuff, don't we? When's the last time you've actually enjoyed a fucking album, and how long has it been in rotation? How much music from 2017 is still relevant or at least being fucking listened to in 2020? It's like everyone is just throwing shit at the walls and seeing what'll stick. Okay, I'm overdramatizing a bit, but still ... And that's just music. How many other things are constantly vying for our attention? It's fucking insane. So my strategy to cope with that is pretty much retreat to my inner sanctum. I know which artists mean the most to me, and I know that they're not gonna be surpassed every two weeks. In a sense, I could almost just listen to Autechre forever and not feel like I'm missing out on a lot, because I really love that shit, and it's diverse and plentiful enough to last me a lifetime. I'm currently in the process of listening to my who knows how many thousand CD's and records, many for the first time in literally decades, some perhaps for the second time ever, and many, many for the last time, because I have no desire to keep them as they just haven't stood the test of time. I still have a collector's mindset and the urge to own the things I'm really into, but I get so much more selective and discerning. If I love it, I'll buy it, if I don't love,it, I don't need it in my life, which is too short for mediocre art, and I just don't have the time to keep up with shit anyway. I just buy a 1TB micro SD card or two, put my best tunes in FLAC on there, set it to shuffle and listen to FM IDEM all day, the best fucking radio station in the world as far as I'm concerned. All I need really. Anyway, sorry everyone, didn't want to derail the thread. ?
  13. Yep, that was some powerful stuff. Definitely one of the better things I've watched this year.
  14. Lol, do have ever anything other than Pizza, @Squee?
  15. Yeah, absolutely, but I did it the other way around, mostly just listening instead of watching. But I guess I could just go hear the original podcast then, which is what I'm going to do after this. I didn't find it that mundane per se. Not every single thought is entitely unheard-of, but sometimes it helps to be reminded of the basic things as well. The last episode feat. Ram Dass is supposed to be quite good, looking forward to that.
  16. Yeah, this. I didn't really understand the dust comments either, I guess that wouldn't be an issue with in-floor heating, right? Anyway, didn't want to make this whole thread about me; anyone else have some unreasonable consumerist aspirations?
  17. Yeah, I can see that. I've made it a personal rule not to listen to mp3's (well, except for a quick peek into some album or whatever. And except those mighty fine Aphex SC dump things, just to keep it OT). Not out of some sort of audiophile snobbery, but because I feel that it actually makes my life easier. Otherwise, the amount of stuff I have access to would just be overwhelming and start to stress me hard. One of my mates basically has everything out there on his hard disk, often before it's even released. Whenever I tell him what I like at any given moment, he's sure to have downloaded it weeks ago. Thing is, he never seems to actually listen to anything, lol. Every once in a while, I tell him what to check out, but I don't know if he ever does. I recently deleted thousands of files I had from him that had been sitting inside my own HDD for years, untouched. I pretty much stopped using torrents after college, and I'm better off for it IMO. But being in the process of digitizing my whole fucking music collection, I can appreciate why one would resort to even lossy streaming. I don"t think I'd be able to do it if I didn't work from home. But yeah, my own Analord vinyl rips sound so fucking good, even on that Walkman. Also, I sometimes (very rarely) have Spotfy running in the background while cooking or when we have guests over who are into more mainstream stuff.
  18. Midnight Gospel. Has anyone else been watching this? It's an adult animated show based on a philosophical podcast, with animation by the creator of Adventure Time. Basically, it takes episodes of the podcast revolving around themes and concepts such as consciousness, meditation, spirituality, death, magick, enlightenment, ego death, and human nature in general and juxtaposes them with (often seemingly unrelated) psychedelic, ultra-violent animations. At first I thought it was trying a bit too hard to be weird, but I think they are genuinely trying to spread wisdom, and the conversations are mostly very engaging, discussing pretty abstract themes in a calm and level-headed manner. The surrealist animations are often too arbitrary for my taste and don't seem to add much to the discussion, so the whole thing can feel a bit gimmicky in places, but on the whole I find it quite rewarding, and it is pretty IDM I guess. It has a touch of philosophy 101, but might be a good jump-off point for diving deeper into some of the stuff that's discussed. I actually prefer reading about philosophical themes, because it's easier to linger on a thought, while with the show, things sometimes happen a bit too fast on both levels, which can be disorientating, so a rewatch might be in order. Nonetheless, I'm five episodes in, and the last one, "The Annihilation of Joy", has been the best so far. They're self-contained, so you can jump in at any point. Oh, and it's on Netflix.
  19. Oh, you thought I actually wanted to drive around in it? Nah, this is just to own and look at. To look at and see nothing.
  20. Kieselguhr is basically the same thing as diatomaceous earth.
