    The Tuss

I remember first playing the preview clips online of Confederation Trough, halfway thru Fredugolon I was thinking holy shit- who are these guys?this stuff is amazing! Then after hearing the rest I was like yeah this is prob AFX.
  2. Metasplice - Mirvariates (2018, Trilogy Tapes). Somehow slept on this when it came out, heard it about a year ago and was intrigued but baffled and now I've got my head around it, it's grown in my estimations. Pointillist bursts of white noise shifting sandlike under wafts of feedback and whines of static. Malevolent and melancholic; its the sound of the singularity. Massively recommended for fans of sci-fi horror electroacoustic techno a la 'Confield' & 'Calabi-Yau Space.'
  3. One of my favorite newish labels, always alien sounds to discover and hi quality sound design. This ones so knackered sounding and shimmery its like Fennesz remixing Andy Stott. I prefer the Naemi material which is more droney and peaceful. Didn't rate the Cryptobitch album much. Hope Huerco S releases something else soon on here as well.
  4. After first listens. Yes it is more Colundi..but yet another notch up, production wise. Sounds even bigger. Aleksi really on top of his mixing here. Lots of little side paths and unexpected directions in tracks. Green: lysergic, swampy sounding Blue: hi tempo lullaby techno Violet: bit more machine-like (detroitish?) riffy Red: hot and hazy very dry hats on this one Orange: bit more whimsical or proggy. Yellow: warm, joyus like the Level 17 CD Grey: this ones all over the place. epic.
  5. ...and now number 3 is up. Maybe the hexagons on the artwork suggest there will be 6.
  6. Yeah this album is just Paradox part 2 really. Main room techno, 909alike drums, 303alike synths lurk around the edges and then Colundi glittering over the top.
  7. To be fair, I think 'Passion' was also promoted as a double EP as well whatever the fuck that means. Whatever happened to mini-albums?
  8. Respect all round to Vod for this reissue programme. As a fellow member unable to spaff 250 bones on the full box, really happy to get the chance to buy the individuals. (Especially as im not too keen on the first few records.) Got Misfits, Assault, Flock and Gesture. Already got a few other releases on cd but pretty sad to learn there are no plans to do the next few records as well. Maybe the success of this would spur on some other label to offer Ponton and Storey et al big $$$ to repress more. Thats a long shot but anyway thx 2 VOD for this awesome release.
  9. 1. Phonatacid 2. VBS.Redlof.B 3. Trojan.KILLAV.E 4. Lisbon Acid 5. Home Made Polysynth 6. Halibut Acid 7. W32.Deadcode 8. Where's Your Girlfriend? 9. I'm Self Employed 10. AFX Acid 04 Something like that, and thats not even considering the bonus tracks.
  10. Thumbs up from me as well. I don't wanna say a return to form cause I really liked the last couple of Plaid records but it feels like being back in the 90s when their sound design and production was shoulder to shoulder with the likes of AFX/Ae. Since the return from hiatus theyve provided plenty of great music but it has felt like they were ploughing their own furrow a little bit, but this one somehow sounds more cutting edge. Hope they get some plaudits + extra sales for this one, top stuff lads.
  11. Interesting stuff on cursory examination... bucolic field recordings of nature mixed with the kind of crackly gloomy drones heard on recent Der Zyklus/Doppereffekt. Seems like its gonna be a very weird juxtapostion and tough to pull off.. getting slight Kosmische vibes as well.
  12. The thing about Colundi for me is the sheer scale is part of the appeal. That Aleksi can keep up the quality control while applying the Colundi process to his old bag of tricks; breaks, techno, ambient. Its what keeps me listening. The massive volume of releases means I never really spend too much time with each one, maybe he's trying to say something about the ephemeral nature of techno i dunno. And yeah the series occasionally runs into longueurs especially on some of the more austere minimal material, and I don't buy any of the cod spirital mumbo jumbo but overall Im still pretty excited to see where the project goes which is not bad going considering its entering its 5th year. Also most of its up on streaming services as well so its not some cash-grab.
  13. Levels 3 6 7 10 11 13 Contact, Connection and Level 17 bluray on the ambient tip. Simulation, Moonshine, Sunshine 2
  14. Bits of this album sound like FSOL's Lifeforms but in HD.
  15. Only on sale for less than a day - Shinichi's a popular boy. (Tho i think this is the only thread on watmm for him.) Still can't believe we're getting all these albums after so much inactivity. So far loving 'Heat'. Cleaner and more upbeat and accessable than anything else in his catalogue but still has that trademark crunch and plasticity.
  16. So far Ive only had a chance to listen to the CD, and its great. Another fast paced clubby collection with mainly 909-alike percussion and rich cascading colundi arpegs that reverb off into the horizon. Probably closest in sound to the Simulation LP and at times reminding me of Mental Union. My tape deck broke and minidisc went missing since colundi 6/7 so im wondering whether to bother sourcing replacements in a hurry, really hoping the digitals get upped soon.
  17. I seem to remember that one of the best resources for reviews and comments about the z*f albums was over at progarchives.com. but yes a full guide would be excellent. I know there are a few members on here that would be up to the task, i imagine it would become quite difficult to keep track of what is probably dozens of hours of similarly gnomic and ephemeral ambient..
  18. Got into them in a big way a few years ago, they are one of those acts that are so singular that you get swept up in them and never listen to anything else, but they don't suit a casual listen. Popular Soviet Songs is often singled out as their best but while good its a little drawn out and subdued compared to others. Assault & Mirage sounds closest to modern day Fennesz/T.Hecker style droneyness. Loh Land is folky and creepy (those flutes). Just An Illusion is one of the better 'tribal' recordings. Music For A Spaghetti Western is another one of my favorites, long almost Niblock style drones. As far as the side projects go, I'd recommend the early Rapoon albums as they just sound like 85-90 Z*F albums. I'm not too into the Reformed Faction stuff, but theres some fascinating stuff on Charm Records to investigate, including an album made entirely of field recordings of Remembrance Sunday silences at the Cenotaph in London.
  19. I really hope he found ABB6 track one. Theres enough Caustic Window, ABB3-5era and Bradley outtakes in the dump already I assume some of them will pop up. He seems pretty keen on giving us completely unheard stuff as well. Don't think they'll be too much more Analord, he already released plenty of outtakes for that in 2009. I'd really love to hear some more material from 2001-2004. The only tracks he released suggest he was just making mental breakcore (Mangle11, Smojphace, BoxEngergyRmx4) .Probably the early days of some of the Analord and Computer Controlled material in this time as well but for a guy so crazily prolific its a notably fallow period. I'm hoping for a few more EPs like 'Orphans', Theres enough material on out there to make plenty of self-contained and cohesive mini-releases. Loads of harsh 1993 tracks (the Phlegm EP?) Either that or just keep tagging them onto the end of ICBYD. imagine something like this: mastered + edited would make a great lost album. Early Morning Clissold Ibiza Spliff barbarella on microdots Sumerfestivalloveinthecountry Autumn Travels Slo Early Morning Sunrise Gear Smudge Summer2 Inthesky Last Clissold Maybe 1st bank track ∂ƒx 126b ∂ƒ∆ (rough) NY Groove 1974-94 (8 of Clubs Concentration) Cornish Spreek (St Nectans)
  20. Yeah, plus the rest of the rephlex crew are all currently floating in the colundisphere. can't wait for some ABB outtakes and Caustic Window stuff too maybe.
  21. Interesting that the ICBYD bonus tracks are all pretty similar in style/tone. Quite minimalist and chilled, departing from the album which can get a bit aggressive.
  22. Nice to hear the Tuss tracks have the same sort of freewheeling funky haunted circus vibe the original releases had. And they're more than up to scratch. Good to hear more tunes from such a sparse period.. can't believe some of these dropped to the cutting room floor while 'Akunk' was pressed on vinyl. The Korg Tuning ep is great. Its like Soothing Sounds For Baby meets Z-Twig off SAWII. Thos ping-pong delays.. definitely the coziest RDJ release for a while. Interesting to see he's still editing tracks so late into the game, I thought that the cut from 28 Organ was because he was self-conscious about re-using that melody in 'Avril 14th'? the track works better without it. Surprised he didn't remaster Tamclap tho, thought it was one of his top twenty tunes ever or something
  23. Wow the bleepstore is live and its glorious.. I'm glad to chuck richie some bones after the enormous generosity of the sc dump. Managed to get most of it downloaded, can't wait til the bugs are ironed out tho. This is pretty much what we were hoping for and more isn't it, a good chunk of the best sc trax mastered and tagged onto the appropriate release/era, along with a mini treasure trove of demos etc. Such a good master job as well on the old tracks. All new Tuss and Orphaned tracks! Field Day is now a fully fleshed out dancey/experimental album, the ambient Korg mini-ep totally nice and unexpected. Can't wait to see how things develop now Afx has decided his past tracklistings are fair-game Kanye-style. Syro now has 'another' final track (and its ace) And I wonder if plans are afoot for any of the other early sc trax, theyre still an excellent SOSW2 to be compiled even if he has used up 'Chink'. Also it seems like fair move to put all those disparate tunes as ICBYD outtakes as that album originally was a compilation of tunes from the previous 5 or so years.
  24. This guy always puts out top notch albums, each a different style/sound, already pre-ordered. Hyperdub suits him well. Ive read that promo text 3 times and still have no idea what the albums gonna sound like other than 'more breaks'.
  25. Just spun Simulation X for the first time, the first two tracks are prime Colundi as we know and love, sounds similar to the 'Unknown' album from last year. the B side is something a bit different.. i would describe it as meditative gabba. Gently distorted kicks and hats hammer away while colundi pads hover above surveying the gentle madness. proper excited for the full release and Lvl17 now. wonder what tracks Aleksi (or Grant) has chosen for the wax?
