  7. JRPGs are all ridiculous and often make no sense, bizarre choices, hammy dialog, very schmaltzy writing - to me, they have a self-acknowledgment of how over-the-top they are, especially the JRPGs from Square. Kingdom Hearts epitomizes this. I never get this sense from Western RPGs or stories in games like bioshock - there's a very irritating self-seriousness that turns me off. That it's "about something". Even the "funny" RPGs like GTA the writing is really shitty and self-regarding. The torture scene in GTAV comes to mind. Far more cringe than Sephiroth being emo for hours, because after all... it's a fucking stupid video game.
  8. it's a little bit more strategy than that.. plus there's a bizarre, moody and hilarious story attached to the battles. and in ff7's case, definitely one that has entered into pop culture canon in both the east and west. for me the og 7 is still held back by the graphics (and yes i played the shit out of it as a kid) but it holds up. its on the switch for like 10 bucks. fun game
  9. normie reddit posts are memes now
  10. New York Times runs stories often reading “Palestinian insurgents kill 3 Israelis.” you get to paragraph four and they FINALLY say 16 Palestinians were also killed. 5 of whom were civilians and 11 of whom were defending against the 3 Israelis MILITANTS attacking them this kind of story happens every week in “the paper of record”
  11. someone set up a fake bandcamp and see if that lures him out
  12. wouldn't expect europeans to get it. but yeah the art is still not my style
  13. in the states in some crazy way I think perception on this has actually gotten a lot better, the only people who care about israel are either right-wing christian freaks, right-wing jewish freaks (dersh etc) and some orthos. And those people are boomers or old gen xers. Support of israel has almost completely vanished among millennials, most are either totally ambivalent or completely disgusted by their treatment of palestinians and their creation of a modern apartheid state. While I don't morally agree with israel on these policies and in general i think the idea of a religious ethnostate is a bad one, I don't really give a shit what they do in their country. I don't live there and there are far more disgusting and heinous human rights abuses all over the world, including many perpetrated by the us govt. what does annoy me is how much of our country's foreign policy is dominated by israel!! I understand the history and reasonings behind it but in the 21st century when we trade more with the saudis than israel it really seems unnecessary. AOC and other millennial politicians are a sign of things to come i hope.
  14. playing my way through FFXII zodiac age (2020 update on PS4) great game, great music, great battles, absolutely ludicrous story. square had been watching too much LOTR and the prequels in 2005....
