In an email from Jochen Schwarz (Die Stadt):

"In the making is the Third and final (?) part of the AUTECHRE/THE HAFLER TRIO collaboration. This will be a 2DVD this time as both artists have constructed pieces of 2 (!) hours length each. Again it'll come in a luxurious sleeve like the previous two parts before, and will be a joint Die Stadt / Simply Superior release this time."

The last two have been wonderful, so this is exciting news! OK.gif

"both artists have constructed pieces of 2 (!) hours length each."

does that mean this one isn't a collaboration?

I'm still yet to buy the previous two and I'm in no rush to do so really as most people seem to dislike them (and they're always too expensive)

Will buy this when it comes out if its a reasonable price I guess. Oh, and if its any good.

No-one liked the last two (apart from audiophiles and people who pretended to like it).
So i will be avoiding this at all costs.

Excuse me, i LOVE both of them! It's more accurate to say no-one liked them except those whose appreciation of sound goes a little deeper than others... yeah.gif

No, there's a distinction: audiophiles like the quality of the sound recorded, but they could be a complete dunderhead when it comes to understanding/appreciating the sounds they're hearing. i'm talking about the "intelligent listener"; shame there doesn't seem to be many out there... undecided.gif

Anyone know of where I could obtain the previous two at a decent price? I simply want to add to my collection and you never know, I may get into them...

So let me see if i've understood - to respond to music using one's intelligence is "pretentious"?!!

They're quite widely available (just Google them) & the prices are decent. For some reason, despite the ornate packaging, Hafler Trio items never have high prices. OK.gif

I wouldn't equate intelligence as being a criteria for listening to or "understanding" music, (no matter how detailed all the little sound waves are). To make that distinction could be considered by some to have an element of pretentiousness within its very fabric. fee.gif

i disagree entirely; if we don't employ our brains when we listen, we're only going to glean a superficial appreciation of what we hear (or see/or read - whatever art form it is). To go deeper, we need to think about it more deeply, which (like it or lament it) requires the use of at least some grey matter.

Music should be more instinctive than that. Yes, there should be a certain level of concentration on what you're hearing but you should instinctively know whether or nots somethings good as this picture from the Untilted tour demonstrates.

to say that anyone has appreciated music on a deeper level than someone else due to intelligence is pretentious. its an assumption that because they havent identified or had the same subjective experience as yourself they have not used their intelligence when this simply isnt the case.

It's a joint release from Die Stadt & Simply Superior; Andrew McKenzie is—as usual—grumpy about this being announced, as he says the format hasn't been agreed. But according to Die Stadt, it'll be out in due course on 2 DVDs. As & when that happens, i'll make sure this forum's aware of it. smile.gif

This isn't, & wasn't, what i was saying. But i'm not getting into this, as an argument of this kind on here of all places is just tedious.

sorry bud didnt mean to ruffle feathers. not sure what you mean by here of all places but cool if its a misunderstanding im sorry. just the entire culture surrounding this kind of music can be infuriating as there is an inherent superiority complex in many listeners of electronic music, i mean people call it electronic music for a start, WTF. but yeah bottom line thanks for the heads up may well end up buying this.

Hey, it's cool, i don't want to ruffle your feathers either! You're quite right about the superiority thing, & i really hate it. While there's a difference between responding to music instinctively & intellectually, i think it would be a mistake to say that one approach was "better" than the other. The best music, after all, is rewarding regardless how you listen to it. Autechre do that for me!

Oh, & yeah, "electronic music" is a totally stupid term. After all, who the hell can dance to Autechre!!
