Guest Super lurker ultra V12 Posted September 13, 2008 Share Posted September 13, 2008 oh god. all you fanboys who constantly pop up when someone slags your hero around here, makes it so fun. i bet you all get your knickers in a bunch on the flashblub messageboard and head out here to put us straight. how dare we not like the same music as you do! for me flahbulbs stuff is derivative and boring. sure, he has the production skills, but still the music sounds hollow to me. all that "emotional" stuff you go on about in his music, just seems contrived and frankly quite pretentious. an easy sell to the crowd who's first contact to "electronic music" is teh flahsblub, no doubt. so he makes commercial ditties for several grands, good on him, completely forgettable music that plays in the background of some facial cream ad. awesome. and he even got awards, just wow, might mean something to someone who thinks shiny trinkets on some bookshelf gives the music some more merit and puts it above criticism. i don't even know why i care to write this. maybe cuz it's only teh flashblub fanboys who come here and whine when we slag him off. don't see other fans storm in here when we slag someone else off. as i said earlier, why not just let us shit on your hero as much as we want here. it doesn't take away you're enjoyment of his music does it? if it does, then it's not really my problem, is it. 1. I don't care for AFX, Squarepusher, or Autechre all that much. I see no reason to take pride into not caring for it. More importantly, on The Flashbulb forum nobody is wishing for them to DIE for releasing a new album. 2. Do you honestly think that ad and film agencies search for completely forgettable and rubbish music to license or have composed? Or do you think that it is a multibillion dollar industry that basically defines what will be cool and what will not? 3. Astral photography was the name of this game. This led me to bring up Pale Blue Dot. It turns out that when I mentioned it to him earlier, he didn’t have a PHYSICAL copy of Pale Blue Dot. However, he had a digital copy of it. We sat in utter silence as we listened to the entire album, soaking it in, admiring the solitary and desolation of our location. I couldn’t help but look up through the sunroof of the rental car as we sped down this state-maintained highway staring at the stars as the music flowed through my brain. It sucked me in. About 30 miles from the interstate, my mental wandering was interrupted as Been started looking feverishly for a sideroad. We found a county road. Gravel, rocks and dirt. We drove for miles down this narrow road, bumping along throwing rocks and dirt into the air behind us. I have no idea how we didn’t get a flat. We happened across an animal suddenly. Benn: “What is that?!?” “What IS that?!?” “It’s a fucking wild boar!!” We continued on for a few miles and coasted to a stop at the top of a small hill. Kill the headlights, kill the Tomtom screen, kill the engine. Total silence. Complete blackness. We step out, and the sky is filled with stars.
