The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

Just kidding, its just Heath Ledger in his last role . . . a role also played by Johnny Depp and Jude Law in this movie.

Anyway, check out a full run down post screening here (though there are some spoilers, so watch out).

Choice quotes that make me hyped for this one:

"THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS is the very first full fledged unfettered Terry Gilliam fantasy since the advent of digital effects – and folks… Gilliam is about to blow your mind. "

"There are many trips through the mirror and many varied imaginings. Some beautiful, some silly, some fantastical and some frightening. But each with such a wonder of existence and imagination that it feels like everyone else in the world is playing with Legos and those over-sized crayolas. The detail and the vision are simply mind-blowingly exquisite.

We always knew that if you gave Terry Gilliam the tools and the money and the freedom that he could do something like this, because even against the brutal ass rapists that tried to kill BRAZIL, he still made BRAZIL."

I'm sure people will go nuts over the fact that THIS was Heath Ledger's last movie and when they finally see it they'll be deeply disappointed.

Ugh, I hate Lily Cole and all the weird doll-faced models who look like her. It's too creepy.

wasn't this lily cole chick supposed to be alice in that marilyn mason movie about lewis carroll. whatever happened to that project.

and yes, this move does indeed look like it could be awesome.

yeah, cautiously optimistic with this one - mostly because the reviewer highlights the things that I haven't liked about recent Gilliam efforts (really, very few things I didn't) and makes it sounds like this is another Baron Von Munchaboxen with a bigger budget, total creative freedom, and excellent acting.

we'll see - I mean, I'll see anything Gilliam no matter what (except Brother's Grimm) and I will see ANYTHING with Johnny Depp in it, no matter how bad. (Secret Window, I'm looking at you)

From wikipedia, Currently the production on Phantasmagoria is postponed and shooting is set to begin after the completion of Marilyn Manson's seventh studio album, which is slated for a 2009 release.

I've been sort of looking forward to this for a while... I don't expect it'll be that great a film, but I do expect it to be full of awesome creativity and visuals. It'll be nice to look at surely...

And also it has Tom Waits playing the devil, that's just awesome.

tideland was depressing and bleak as fuck i hope this new one is a little more uplifting and fun

i thought there were a lot of great aspects to the Brothers Grimm, i think it's too harshly criticized.

where as movies like 12 monkeys are extremely over hyped and watching it now the movie is very very dated. I like it i just think its a flawed movie. and it kind of irriates me when so many people parrot the same thing about Gilliam, i've been hearing Brothers Grimm is his worst film since it came out, but have you seen Jabberwocky?

its the same group mentality that causes star trek fans to profess 'the only good movies are the even numbered ones'

i personnally really liked the brothers grimm, i thought it was real fun and random, like he wrote the script while smoking spliffs as a young man and just got the money to make the movie years and years later

Used to be quite the fan of Gilliam back when I watched films on a regular basis. I haven't seen The Brothers Grimm or that other one, though; but Brazil and Time Bandits are lifelong favourites. So I hope this turns out to be an acceptable film.

yeah i mean it obviously was botched in part by the studio to try to make it more mainstream but i enjoyed it far more than Tideland and i would say it even had more classic gilliam in it than tideland
