Rap from when you were young

I remember buying Electro 7 (streetsounds) on vinyl in 1985. That was when I first got into hip-hop. This track was on Hip-Hop (Electro) 20 and apart from the first 2 Public Enemy albums is proberbly my favorite track from my hip-hop days. After NWA released their first album I lost interest in everything hip-hop and started to get into Black Sabbath and Slayer. Still a timeless top tune (but no video).

i used to listen to tons of rap and hip hop when i was younger.

what distinction are you making between rap and hip-hop?

That's a complex question. I hate the confines of what makes music fit in certain categories. For example someone may not consider someone rapping over heavy metal to be hip hop. I don't want a debate, I just want some old ass beats and rhymes that people enjoyed back in the day

High school grade 11/12 was fucking when shit was going off. 92/93

(yes, I know the song's name is "the choice is yours" but the audio in this track is not bad for youtube)

chen pretty much summed it up there. nice. yea, im 34 so this stuff was in its prime in 8th grade, freshman year. de las soul, i forgot about that 3ft high and rising album. that was so different then. 3rd bass, kmd, all that took off around then. i remember when wu came out, my buddy has a 77 black cutlass with a kicker box in it. we used to drive around smoking a bong made out of a gatorade bottle and a ratchet. those were the days.

i think hip hop is the genre, and rap is the style of singing
