I live in the sunset district [near the beach, south of the Golden Gate Park]. From 2007-2009, there were 4 murders in my district, which is quite surprising judging from the rest of the map. We honestly forget to lock our doors all the time and nothing ever happens. The area has actually gotten seedier since I've moved here, but it's still pretty safe.

 

Someone cut the brakes on my bike to get to the wire adjuster last week, though.

Ive noticed out West that you often dont know when you are in a bad neighborhood. California pretty much always looks nice. The bad areas look like parking lots maybe but thats it. Here in the East, you can smell when you are in a bad neighborhood. Then you can see it. Then you lock your doors. You have lots of warning signs. Out west, not so much
