FUCKING HELL

boat level and ghosts just fucking APPEAR ANYWHERE and FLY ANYWHERE. think about that, its not even about fucking skill, you just have to hope that a ghost doesn't appear on you. which - by the way - they fucking do. what the fuck? how am I supposed to play this?

This is one of those games I got to the end to as a kid (though not completed, if you don't pick up a certain item it throws you back to the first level!) however a few years back I played it again and I was getting fucking whooped.

I love it no less though.

i've never played the game, but from what i'm seeing on youtube it looks pretty easy compared to other games that came out during that time period. i'm sure you'll get back into it :braindance:

Super Ghouls n Ghosts separates the men from the boys and I never made it past the ship

kids these days don't know how easy they have it and games are almost designed to be completed so you buy another asap

right now I'm going through a scrolling shoot em up renaissance (or SHMUP's) and having much fun with Gradius V, Castle of Castle of Shikigami 2 and every Turbografx/PC Engine shmup. I'm finding United Acid Emirates or Move of Ten works well whilst your dodging the spray of bullets

whilst were here how hard was Contra 4?

That's as far as I ever got on the SNES version. As a kid I managed to get to the final boss at the arcades though, there was an arcade that only charged 10p a go and my Dad gave me 3 quid so I spent it all on Ghouls n Ghosts and loved every minute.

aah Ghouls and Ghosts. I never played it for years after, when I was a child "*Completed" it and the game put me straight back to the start because I missed one fucking item. The sheer RAGE I expelled against that game shall never be sought again I can tell you that... SERIOUSLY WTF I GET TO THE END AND IT THROWS ME TO THE STARTT ALL OVER AGAIN FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I tried years later and got stuck on some lava level later on.....

might try again... right now... just because....

Well now with an emulator you can freeze state and reload it whenever you die, so when you do make it a little further it's not like you'll only have one life left. It's not much of an advantage but it helps a little.

the c64/amiga versions of the ghouls n ghosts series didn't punish you so much.. you only had to play the game through once.. and they had the great Tim Follin soundtrack.. best game music ever!

No idea, I think I never managed the first stage even. But I must have loved it cause I drew an A4 version of the little cover from the sticker on the SNES cartridge. I didn't have the box, I don't even know where the game came from. It kinda was just there some day. In fact the only games I ever picked from a shop were Donkey Kong Country 3 and Secret of Evermore.

Which is why people like me come up with levels like this ...

(sorry if it's not available in your country, Sony bullshit blocked it in mine, but it should be viewable in the US I guess...?)

Contra 4 was really tough. I beat it on Normal after a LOT of practice. Hard mode is another story, however, and I never made it past level 5 or 6. However, all contra games are hard, so it's to be expected.

Idk if the gameboy version had it but the bike level on the SNES was pretty damn near impossible

my mood is improving because i am making progress. the only problem is that the emulator I'm using won't save so i have to start again each time i quit.

up to the rafting level, reach the boss once. wish me luck.
