Sebadoh

I don't think we've ever had a Sebadoh thread. I have it on good authority that out of the big four, only ae don't love Sebadoh. In fact TCHP is pretty much a Lou Barlow tribute album. Not that that redeems it.

Aren't The Fall really one of Richard D James' favourite bands?

n.b. Did I dream it, or was there footage of him playing 'Eat Y'Self Fitter' in one of his sets? Might even have been the Warehouse gig that everyone's still wanking over.

Sebadoh is amazing, I've always preferred Barlow's solo music to his work with J. Mascis. If you are serious though could you elaborate a bit more on the idea of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher being Sebadoh fans, how did you come to that conclusion?

Bakesale was their best & most consistent album. Awesome from start to finish. I think it was the Summer of 94. I listened to that album over & over & over. It just got better every time. The design & artwork was really good of the too. Classic.

If you need a place to start, start there.

Sebadoh a re great. I saw them live a few years back and it must have been one of the most violent gigs I've ever been to, had a great time though

That's one of my all time favourite songs.... there was a time when I listenmed to that everyday.

Thought process went:

*reads mellotron thread*

"What was that mellotron track that sebadoh did?"

"Actually, have Sebadoh ever been mentioned on wattem?"

*searches wattem and discovers this thread here*

"haha, I can actually see the link between BoC and sebadoh."

"I want to live in a world where Sebadoh are Richard D. James' favourite band."

"Wait, maybe they are. Maybe they're the missing link between the big 4. Hmm, AE can't be fans, can they?"

Hence thread.

i didn't actually notice it was a kokoon thread

It isn't. I'm not sure what kokoon will think about being confused with kakapo.

  • 2 years later...

I had a sebadoh, come and codeine day today. As in the bands come and codeine. I wasn't taking codeine and splunking man hummus all over Lou Barlow. I'm not J Mascis.

Did you know that Sebadoh put out a new EP this year (Secret EP), and are working on a new album for 2013?

I didn't but I can't get too excited as Barlow is so maddeningly inconsistent. One of the few artists I don't feel guilty about skipping through his discography. The only remotely consistent release he's ever done was Bakesale and the two best songs on that were Lowenstein's. There will be at least one awesome bittersweet pop song guaranteed though, amongst the other 27 stoner wankfests.

Haha, can't disagree with you there in general. I liked Harmacy as much as Bakesale though, and from what I recall I prefer the Barlow songs on both albums. I haven't cared for much of Barlow's stuff outside of Sebadoh either...so we'll see. The EP was decent but it's not like my hopes are really high or anything.
