I dunno. Watching the trailer makes Avatar look like even more of a technical achievement.

Looks like cut scenes in a video game.

**sits on the computer, doesn't know anything about 3D animation, ignores the experience of the hundreds of specialists working on this movie, says everything is poorly done**

That's the internet for ya, everyone's an expert on any given subject.

On the other hand, when it comes to vfx, the layman's opinion of whether something "looks right" is kind of what it's all about...

It may turn out to be a good film, I dunno, but it does seem to suffer from a heavy dose of uncanny valley for me. I think the treatment one chooses needs to match the subject matter. I've always found the combination of stylized, cartoonish shapes with near-photoreal skin texturing to be an odd combo. I probably would have treated it more like the recent Disney flick Tangled, in other words, focus on stylized animation rather than mocap, and drop the realistic skin textures. The problem is, that's not what Weta is geared to do - Weta is set up to make visual effects for film. So of course if they're asked to do a cartoon project, they're going to bring their realistic style to bear...

Guest analogue wings

weta are creatively bankrupt. they're a bunch of technical college kidz who grew up worshipping hollywood tat and as soon as they had enough money and tech they started cranking out slick, bland emulations thereof. given a choice between unique artistic vision and SWEET GRAFFIX BRO they will always go foe the latter

any irony regarding how their current output compares to the films that made their founder famous is entirely lost on them.

Heh, while I tend to agree that their work is not as good as their rep (they seem particularly weak in terms of compositing, lighting, and animating), I have a few friends who work there so watch your mouth (lol). Also keep in mind like most vfx houses they have a lot of turnover...Valve hired away a bunch of top-level Weta dudes...

it's even funnier for computer animation if you believe the uncanny valley effect is real since based on the effect itself the closer one gets to emulating realistic looking humans with CGI or animatronics the more creeped out and more resistance someone suffering from uncanny valley will display. Im not saying that specifically with TIn tin, but sometimes watmm embodies the definition of jaded ie: when chaosmachine posted the CGI chick that looked perfect.

I remember that chick. How could people possibly complain about this?
