Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor recently spoke with the German branch of Metal Hammer regarding the bands forthcoming album “The Hunter“. According to Dailor the group are tentatively aiming for an October release date for the outing, while newly revealed tentative track titles include “The Sparrow” and “The Ruiner“.

this should be fantastic. in other interviews I've heard brann describe the music as a super heavy zeppelin. there is a decent video interview here too. can't wait.

great news. one of the best and most consistent metal bands about. in other news has anyone read about that "supergroup" being formed by members of mastodon, the mars volta and the dillinger escape plan?

yea me too. quite a departure for them though. I wonder if there will be any Paul Romano artwork this time, i don't think they have ever used anyone else for anything they have done.

I think the cover art and change of logo indicates a change in sound on this one... I can't find the specific interview, but I remember reading somewhere (perhaps a post from Relapse Records on Facebook) that they were claiming to be done with the elemental theme thing their last few albums have had. I have a feeling this one is gonna be less prog-ish and more back to just some heavy slabs of straight up metal, like the Remission era stuff, but of course evolved upon as the group has grown greatly since then.

yea I agree. I think this album is going to be a mixed bag of a few styles. there will still be proggy stuff though I think. there are a few tracks on here from the crack the Skye writing sessions. it sounds like they had fun with tjis one and didn't take it as serious as the last few.

Can't wait for this. It's tough keeping myself form listening to the previews.

their si only 1 preview and it really doesn't give anything away. the video with the puppets is a leftover track from crack the skye, it wont be on the hunter. do not deprive yoursefl of that video, it is pretty cool.

When I saw them it was the single best show I've been to. Absolutely incredible. I even went alone to it and it was still good enough to top all of the (many) gigs I'd been to prior.

I thought they weren't very good live after watching live vids of youtube tho so they may be hit/miss. But when they hit, they fucking hit.

I saw them and Converge open for Dethklok. The opening bands definitely got screwed for sound as tends to be the case, but I think Mastodon was having an off night as well. The vocals were flat for a lot of it, and the rhythm was surprisingly unsteady. But fuck do they ever make good albums.
