Final Fantasy 7....me What would be yours?

Well, just thought I would express my thoughts here. Hands down, best videogame experience of my life, sorry, but its true. Some of you might argue Halo, Zaxxon, Mario, Karnov, whatever, but this game is the reason I bought a PS. Some argue its too linear, but lotta great games are. Besides, once you open up the world map and get a few mobile machines at your disposal, there are a billion side quest , and adventures to be had that takes you aways from the lineage. Course you got the story itself. Ya, there is quite a bit of dialogue, and a few times where you aren't playing for awhile, like when cloud is all tripped out and he's coming to his realization. That takes bout 30-45 mins to get thru, but that's fine. Lots of characters, so many ways to defend, kill with weapons, special spells, and summons. Some are turned off by the turn based fighting, but it suits me well. games like Zelda are cool, your able to runaround, and be free, but turn based is very strategic in my eyes, I think it works great. Not trying to nerd it up, but this game is endless. I have beat it a billion times, and still haven't done it all (Weapons{Ruby-Emerald}, side quests, Max out Characters) I think I even rubbed one out to Tifa once, but that was long ago

Also Final Fantasy VII; by a good margin too. After which would be Metal Gear Solid for sure.

But yeah, FFVII had it all. It had the amazing graphics for it's time, with beautiful backdrops. It had an amazing soundtrack by the wonderful Nobuo Uematsu that captivated me and had a wide emotional range. The strategy was solid, including the awesome materia system. The story was not only amazing in itself, but it was told really well too.

the first fallout. i can't think of a more concise, perfect expression of post-apocalyptic americana in popular culture.

I think mine would be Super Metroid - I can't think of any other game I've played through so much. The first moment when you land on the empty Planet Zebes when it's raining and everything is derelict still gets me even after all these years.

Obviously the duo of Myst and Riven. Nothing compares really. The austere classical aesthetic of the original, and then the untouched artistry of Riven; the grimy, rusted industrial infrastructure inserted into these rocky tropical islands... just astounding. I loved every second wandering around during my formative years. So clear to me now as an architecture student that the aesthetic of these games defined so much of how I approach my own design work. Richard Vander Wende is a brilliant artist.

Aye. I was stuck looking for the route to fight Kraid for the longest time. Once I blew a hole in the ground and found that passage to the boss room I fought him and got the Varia Suit; the game literally opened up after I was able to walk around in Norfair without losing energy... Amazing, peerless game.

Wish Square would bite the bullet and remake 7. Amazing game, I fucking loved the Gold Saucer and Midgar slum districts. I'd play through it again, but I'm not sure I'd have the patience with the random fight encounters loading up each time... "sshhhwwooooaoawww"

They're not as frequent as you probably remember them to be (currently finishing off all the subquests on disc 3 as my only second play through since last completing it back in about 1999 and was surprised by how long you can sometimes play without a battle ). Though that may be because -battle noise- I'm also -battle noise- playing through Final -battle noise- Fantasy IV -battle noise- and the random -battle noise- fight en-battle noise-counter rate there -battle noise- is ridiculous.

If you've never played it before I suggest getting hold of Chrono Trigger, it may possibly trump VII for me (not 100% sure though), and you see the enemies rather than the screen just doing it's random twizzly thing. Bloody ace game with a fantastic story.

There was this murder-mystery game set in ancient china (i think the game was called China but im not sure, i can't remember the name for the life of me) i used to play this game all the time, i spent about 2-3 weeks trying to solve a murder and i never solved it (i abandoned it right around the time i got Empire Earth and that started taking most of my game time)

I would love to play this china game again but i cant find it, i had so much fun playing it i think i would enjoy it now as an adult (and the nostalgia oh boy, good times)

Empire Earth will never be recognized as the best game of its kind because of Age of Empires. In my opinion Empire Earth is the best strategy game i've ever played.

Super Metroid might be my fav of all time. if not #1 by itself then it's tied for #1.

super metroid was an amazing game, but there were many others on snes. super castlevania IV was just freaking awesome, and i would have to say that the music in it blows away the music in super metroid. and that is not small thing because super metroid had awesome music. metroid did have more of the desolate, exploring abandoned ruins and a derelict planet thing and that's a deep atmosphere, whereas castlevania was more straightforward actioner. BUT the way the levels are designed in castlevania IV, i swear i wish more designers took note of that. the ebb and flow of the levels leading up to the boss fights, is just perfect. each level is beautiful and has a different theme with all this awesome stuff in the background to look at. the people who think symphony of the night is the best castlevania are just crazy. either that or they haven't played IV. another great snes platformer is yoshi's island. amazing art and level design, and possibly the best 2d 'mario' game ever made, and also one of the least remembered. star fox on snes was also completely amazing and it was like having a spike in your arm pumping in pure raw adrenaline. if you beat that game even one time on the 3rd, most difficult path, you basically are a star fighter pilot badass. probably the most rewarding difficult game i've ever played that really challenged me but totally paid off when you beat it. SNES will probably always be my favorite game system. oh and i forgot to mention zelda III which i still think is the best zelda, because it's where a lot of the stuff/cliches that appear in every zelda game since actually started.
