I recently stumbled upon the term "weeaboo" which seems to describe a non-Japanese person that's obsessed with Japan and behaves in a stereotypically Japanese manner. That sounds pretty stupid. Why should anyone do this? Do you have any experience with a weeaboo or are you one? If you are from Japan, have you ever come across a weeaboo and how did you perceive them?

I understand the fascination for the foreign and exotic, but I can't figure out why someone would want to reproduce stereotypes instead of trying to get to know more about the culture of interest. Weird

feel like this is an outdated term. very 2002-2007. these people have either moved on to another act of cultural appropriation like listening to k-pop, or have died of heart failure.

the term itself may be somewhat outdated, but weeaboos are still very much alive & roaming the earth.

'weeaboo' is an insult, not a category of person

Okay, thanks, didn't mean to bully anyone. I didn't read it in a very insulting context though, thought of it as playful, but the phenomenon itself was new to me.

weaboos are prevalent in Europe and north america. but the new thing is koreaboos.
