yes, they are trying a coup, again, doing the pre-election part, actively working to really fuck with things, this election.

check around 23:30 in this for a decent description of some plots already in motion

today judge chutkan released jack smith's new filing in trump's federal coup case. 165 pages. pretty readable, detailed description of the overall case in Section 1: Factual Proffer (pages 3 - 85)
pdf: https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000192-4ed8-d086-a1fe-7edb0e150000

jack smith describes trump setting the stage for his coup on page 5. calls it "laid the groundwork for his crimes." jack smith notes trump's repeated, false claims about mail-ins causing fraud, months before the election.

another good video from bulwark this week. reflecting on vp debate, interesting how these conservatives view vance as a particularly insidious and loathsome figure that represents a kind of metastasis of trumpism that would be better to avoid.

gets into a good zone around 21:50

(from https://elections2024.thehill.com/national/harris-trump-general/ )

Doing well but not well enough for it to be 'in the bag', guess it comes down to the swing states

(edit: interesting looking at the variance change (faint dots) in the pre/post biden drop out halves of that graph, reinforces my impression that Biden vs Trump was a very boring proposition for everyone)

wait = this is real?

yes.

this is what he did when he was introduced by trump.

n6ly1gia01td1.jpeg?width=507&auto=webp&s

fdzk2jcdt0td1.png?width=958&auto=webp&s=

and he said he's "Dark MAGA" which is an alt right version of it that supports the idea of an authoritarian president.

some people suspect he's going so hard for trump because of regulations. and getting them dropped/reduced for his companies.

Stephanopoulos also pressed Johnson on whether he would acknowledge the fact that Trump lost the 2020 election, a loss that both the former president and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, his running mate, have declined to definitively confirm.

“Can you say unequivocally that Joe Biden won the 2020 election and Donald Trump lost?” Stephanopoulos asked.

“See, this is the game that is always played by mainstream media with leading Republicans. It’s a gotcha game. You want us to litigate things that happened four years ago when we’re talking about the future,” Johnson said. “We’re not going to talk about what happened in 2020. We’re going to talk about 2024.”

that last answer was the only 'real' one she gave...it's basically one step away from saying 'Netanyahu must step down' which makes clear that Netanyahu is def on his way out, one way or the other. if she's saying stuff like that publicly, the administration is pushing Israel very hard in the background.

netanyahu has been on his way out for like 30 years i think though hasn't he? he's managed to scrounge his way forward and claw onto power through all the corruption, the charges and indictments. his background is suspect as well. but it doesn't seem to matter. the extremists like him and want him to do more of what he's doing. the longer the attacks on israel's neighbors go on the longer he'll be in power. if the USA was capable of getting rid of him he'd have been gone already but so far no recent administration has been willing to withhold aid... it's all talk.

he was out but then he snuck back in...he definitely had some shady initial rise to power stuff, not as bad as Putin iirc but not dissimilar in tone. they've had some similar trajectories in their power, come to think of it (surely lots of much smarter people have already figured this out long ago).

we'd done some flirting with non-Netanyahu Israeli leaders last year, i believe Biden had some Israeli military leader at Camp David w/o Bibi that caused some stirring.

i doubt it's all talk tho, US military support and US aid definitely come with caveats and expectations...i imagine the US is happy with a large portion of what Bibi's been doing for the last year so is fine with things as is until another option becomes viable. US is 100% definitely working towards that in the background (tho that doesn't mean they'll succeed, of course).
