It was like the Reagan years redone, but now with far more commercialism and superficial fans than the 80s ever experienced. Punk was still going strong in the 90s...my uncle was part of the whole straight edge scene for years when he was in high school back in the 90s. And now I think there are more true DIY and non-compromising bands than ever. But 10 years ago, it was a complete mess...Hot Topic, the later years and current Warp Tour, etc...it was funny seeing all of that corporate influence fused with the big names of punk at the time, especially with shit like the Iraq War going on. i know grown up punks. They still like punk Same here. In fact if anything it's a better state now b/c the internet is such a great asset for underground scenes. The recent 80's revival makes me want to die.I was always grateful that I didn't grow up in the 80's. And then the late 2000's-present happened. Except we don't get a punk movement (or Reagan :D) I miss those minimal dance songs of 2001. All of a sudden everyone was all "Mericka Fuck Yea" and the country got super ethnocentric and was all about revenge. So nevermind, I agree. "Rock Against Bush" is so pathetic in comparison to "Let There Be Jelly Beans". Seems really forced, then again, I didn't grow up in the 80's so maybe it was forced then too Edit: Hot Topic lol. I thought they were the shit back in 8th grade, and it honestly was kind of cool, they had some punk stuff that was legit. Now they've got Fred's latest album and Miley Cyrus next to the Minor Threat and shirts that say "You're the Boss, Applesauce". Dunno wtf happened there. It just doesn't get signed to major labels, so you don't think it's going on as you never go to the nights and buy the CD from the hot chick on the door with the odd haircut. There are a few years I can't account for now, and I even lost interest in The Fall for a few of those. I rose like a phoenix in the 2000s in spite of my health taking something of a nosedive (and getting a damn sight less poon than I did in the 90s). But otherwise: My uncle, the one who used to be a hardcore punk, finds them quite clever, because back in the 90s all the punks (at least the ones in Texas cities) used to go to mall just to ridicule everyone and loiter.
