Yes, the Master and Margerita was great. I liked Babel’s short stories as well (roughly the same time period, yes?).

Cool. Any other favorites from dark and twisted (Eastern) European 1910-1920 you can recommend?
  4. Ah ... YouTube ... the foremost medical journal of the modern age.

Kafka is one of my favorite authors. With you on the style of that time period, too. My favorite works of Kafka are not his novels, however, but his short stories. Some of which he himself thought were good enough to publish during his lifetime. There also very funny, but that part only becomes clear when you read them aloud to someone else.
  6. Used to work at Pizza Hut in the 1990s. Can conform. We didn’t have spray cans back then but we did make the crusts by dropping them frozen into a pan full of soybean oil and then having them thaw and proof.
  7. Night clubs will probably be fine - they cater mostly to young people and young people aren't affected that badly by the virus so they'll probably not be afraid to go into dark indoor venues surrounded by potential virus spreaders. Also, young people are stupid.
  8. The most iconic hi hat in history isn’t analog either. The 909 hi hat was sampled. Badly. It’s only surpassed by the sampled hi hat in the Korg ER-1, which is an even worse sample of the 909 hi hat.
  9. Last saturday the Dutch railway company had to send out an announcement asking people to STOP. TAKING. TRAINS. TO. GO. TO. THE. BEACH.
  10. Mint grows everywhere. I hope you like your summer cocktails because you will be drinking a lot of them.
  11. Just when you thought it couldn’t get more legendary than Florian.
  12. That Obama himself is not what is normally considered to be black / African American, meaning the descendent of African slaves and with a long family background of oppression and racism. This is more than just nitpicking. Recent immigrants from Africa, such as Nigerian Americans or, why not, Kenyan Americans, do much, much better in the US than “African Americans”. The same is true for immigrants of African descent from the Caribbean. This latter data point is especially interesting because these Caribbean immigrants, like “African Americans from the US” come from a background of slavery and oppression. However, economically they perform a lot better. So clearly there is something in the experience of having a family history of growing up in the oppressive, racist system of the US that is horrible for your prospects in life and severely hinders your chances of economic success. Black Caribbean Americans, recent immigrants from Africa and also Obama do not have that experience. Hence, while it’s great that Obama, a dark skinned man with African features and, of course, an African American wife, managed to become president, it does not mean that the descendants of African slaves sent to the US can now become president. That has not yet happened and from the looks of it won’t happen in the foreseeable future.
  13. Have we done seals singing “kiss from a rose” yet? If no: you’re welcome.

    DANK MEMES

Of course. Also, she'd never become president, nor does she need to - as long as she pulls the Overton window to the left she's successful - but still: it would be hilarious. Sorry for the interruption, btw. Back to the regularly scheduled program:

It would be hilarious to see her give Saudi Arabia a good talking to.

  20. Tony Allen was big too, but for us at WATMM, ok. Next up would be one of the featured artists (except BOC, they’re waaayyy down :-P) RIP.
