  1. Something that helps me - turn off wi-fi when you're home. I so often come home from work thinking "aaaaaah and now to some music making". But then I just quickly check my e-mails, get reminded of contacting the guy who sold me a laptop adapter that never arrived, click on a newsletter, starting to head over to this board, youtube, social media, clicking this clicking that and suddenly it's 9:30PM...I find that making music requires a certain piece of mind that can get totally destroyed from internet distraction ? On the topic in general: a day-job can really kill your creativity. But having no job can be even worse, at least for me. As someone on here said switching off after a day of work through making music is a helpful antidote. Whereas trying to be creative but having constantly the question in the back of your mind how to survive the coming months I found awful. Part-time jobs are also a nice trade-off. But they're usually hard to find. Last year I had one with only 20 hours and the pay was just enough to life a very cheap life. Unfortunately I disliked it so much that the hours felt more like 30.
  2. This one looked quite nice from watching some minutes: https://www.matrixsynth.com/2012/01/intro-to-synthesis-part-1-building.html
  3. I'm an underprivileged child as well and didn't get any synths ? Ok jokes aside: Nice move...but I still get an odd feeling when a company is 'buying' it's image based on completely laid out external requests. No hate towards Behringer though.
  4. I've had the follow-up , the Tomcat, for a while. Very sweet looking and good build. Snare is ace and the clap is one of the best I've heard. Other sounds are mediocre to quite bad, such as the kick and hats. Would be great to use as a complementary drumbox. Not what I was looking for though. And the midi implementation of that thing was the lousiest I've ever seen on a device.
  5. Sweet! Been meaning to get into touch designer for years. Oh well...
  6. So I've been locked in the house due to being on sick leave. Did a workshop last weekend for soldering together a bastl Kastl drum after not having done any diy for 2 years. Realized again how meditating it is! Now I'm GASing on two diy kits that both use the same megadrive chip as the MegaFM. First up is the Opera Rotas, a sort of Mega FM drum machine! Can also be played as a 9-voice synth though. Around 224$ inc shipping for just a DIY kit...a very unique instrument though I reckon! Anther is the DAFM Synth. No Drum machine, just a plain synth. BUT 4 oled screens, one per operator. And slightly cheaper for around 140 the diy kit! https://www.tindie.com/products/kassersynths/dafm-synth-genesis-ym2612-ym3438-diy-kit/ Gotta set my priorities what I need more, a new synth or an exotic drum machine ?
  7. Very nice track. Sounds very clean as well, good work on the mixing I presume.
  8. Odd, tried now again and it does load. Nice stands
  9. Haven't heard most of those before. This calls for a Ceephax SAW compilation!
  10. So I've been looking at a new pair of monitors for 600 EUR max. Compared the yamaha hs8 and the Kali Lp-8. Anyone been working with the Kali's? The difference between the two is rather huge. Kali = way more balanced/flat and pleasant. HS8 = much more pumping, almost like you're in a club. I'm somewhat concerned of ear fatigue with the Yamaha's as well. My room is around 8m2 which also makes the hs-8 also feel like overkill. Curious to hear second opinions on the Kali's!
  11. I've had the sp-555 (which is somewhat a cousin of the 404) for years and the fx are unique. But that's about it, other than that I grew to hate it and it's only used as an fx machine for a long time. They've improved on some of it's biggest cons like the awful way of editing the samples using the 'mark' button. Also the lack of chromatic playback, slicing as well as that you couldn't use more than one effect at the time. I do feel however they really complicated things with the fx routing. Also a second page of effects parameters I consider unnecessary, the simplicity of really not needing more than 3 paramters at a time was part of the charm. Last but not least the shitty sequencer looks like it's barely improved. Yes it's indeed fine for hiphop beats and anything >100 bpm. And did they FINALLY add panning per sample? Couldn't see that in the video. Concluding: I currently have the circuit rhythm and its for me the perfect balance between versatility, simplicity & character for a smaller pricetag. A brilliant distortion, decent delay/verbs, good filters and pitch shifters is all I need I figured. For the sp-line, I understand that it acquired a certain status soundwise due to it's unique character. But other than that I find it a very overpriced machine.
  12. I have a Zynthian...unfortunately the pi3 version which is considerably less powerful. Still a good investment and there's quite some development going on. There is even works going on for being able to run norns with the same hardware. That said, get rare materials while you can and the Zynthian is only gonna be even more developed if you get it later.
  13. Thanks man, that's some stellar advice here! Think I'm gonna just get them and if it turns out to not work for my setup just sell em. They are quite decently priced anyway.
  14. I'm also looking at the K&M's for the same reasons as you to have more deskspace. You use Neumann's I understand? I have Fostex PM-1's but looking to upgrade to Yamaha HS-8's. I wasn't sure if the K&M's are suited for monitors that big but yet have to do the measurements. P.s. @TubularCorporation that TNT website is fantastic.
  15. Ok this might be the wrong thread for it but I *think* about selling my Monotribe since more than a year but have deep fears of regretting it. It's sound and brutal filter are second to none for me. But that clicky non-adjustable envelope...I can still hear it in the mix with so many tracks of mine. And there are so many great other great options for cheap analog monosynths these days without that problem.
  16. I have a squid since recent and like a lot so far. If a Pyramid feels like overkill for the job however I'm afraid you might experience the same with this one. I'd recommend a Zaquencer. Should be half the price of a squid, can do all you asked for and is also more portable. Behringer even announnced they'd re-release a new version, but knowing them that could take another years(s).
  17. Sequential Sixtrack. Bought it for like 500 eur in 2012. Was disappointed by the sequencer which was my main reason of buying it back then. Today I have no idea why I would have bought it for that specifically while the sound is what makes this device.
  18. Very nice work. Like how the theme of the video stays the same for the most time, yet has a climax moment midway. Mean the same for the music. They work very nicely together.
  19. ZynaddsubFX aka Zyn-fusion I have a Zynthian, which is basically a raspberry-pi poweered hardware version of it. But as a plugin it's been out since the 90's and little has beaten it. Confusing UI but you'll eventually get there. Here is a track I made only with this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3Ng3TaCO2g
  20. Sold mine like a year ago but I have other Arturia Stuff with the same step sequencer and I'm pretty sure it can't
  21. I had been saving up cash all of 2020 to buy a powerful sampler and got the 1010 blackbox. The tracker had come out only 2 months before that. Still not sure if it was the good choice, the tracker and the bb seem to cancel each other out when it comes to features.
