  1. whoa, that dub sample was new to me, I never looked into TCH's samples much man you were not kidding, some of backmasked examples are incredible
  2. I dunno why I slagged this first time around, their version of "Sixtyniner" is lush AF!
  3. ^ yeah we briefly confirmed who we were via avatars, you were like "mine's the smocking pigeon" and I was "oh I'm the simpsons coyote" when the show ended it really set in just how cold my wife and I were sans jackets, all a brought was a light hoodie and it was soaked early on from the rain goddamn what a set - that video recording is fun to revisit also anyone else remember patiently waiting through ODESZA? @Lada Laika had headphones on and looked back with this "yeah, this is happening right now" look (akin to this 0:06) at the crowd going nuts over cheesy EDM. that discord channel was a nice distraction when standing around.
  4. fucking cool pairing - breakcore legend and a solid AF cassette label
  5. Did you ever see A Walk in the Woods ? Kristen Schaal shows up as this annoying hiker and at one point she's just singing "get lucky" outloud to herself while they are trying to immerse themselves in the Appalachian woods
  6. damnit, I need to forward you those
  7. Same here, albeit for me Chemical Brothers were the most direct. But Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx were gateways to house and disco-tinged dance music I had never been exposed to previously. I still remember the day I saw "Digital Love" on MTV in 2000/2001 when I was living in Suffolk. One of those music videos and songs I had burned in my memory for years before I tracked it down again. As much as they've become this annoying pop culture reference point for normies and techbros who splurge on their merch they def contributed a lot and were legit DJs and producers. They pretty much forged the fidget house / electro house sound of the 00s via Ed Banger Records and DFA and those other indie dance labels that help push back on the increasingly sterile (IMO) trance and proghouse sounds that dominated at the time.
  8. I too remember LCD Soundsystem calling it quits in 2011 lol Actually I think Daft Punk is truly done, I'm getting sincere "hey we're officially not doing this anymore, thanks" vibes akin to R.E.M. calling it quits. I appreciate them making it official. As much as feel for sincere fans hoping for another tour I'm neither shocked nor particularly saddened. They've been pretty leisurely since the early 00s, raking in residual and merch money (and IIRC they were always fairly well off kids). It'd be cool if they do some house tracks as solo projects, their 12" under other aliases are among the best they've ever made
  9. James Stinson worked as a truck driver during his artist career, there's another interview that sounds like he's driving while on the phone. I feel like there's something of a apprehension to discuss the realities and pitfalls of working to live with time and energy spent on music. Things like social media and patreon has some navigate this dilemma but it still exists. Music journalism rarely dives into in detail. I feel like it was something of a common occurrence in the early 00s especially to find out that even fairly successful indie rock bands or bands/artists with modest major label deals had members who still worked jobs between tours and/or after contracts ended. I've noticed that Stinson is among a few artists I really respect and like who also is upfront about addressing making money from music and actively trying to segregate it from their creative ethos and their artistic process, even on a subconscious level. Jandek notoriously released music under his own imprint and never really admitted he was the same man on the albums. He alluded to being a machinist and I've wondered if he partly started to do live performances after decades of seclusion in the late 2000s because he retired and/or hit social security age. Fenriz of Darkthrone has been very upfront about never not having a job of some sort and was a mail sorter for years. He and his bandmate Nocturno Culto (who has worked as a schoolteacher) have also agreed to never tour again even though that could easily prevent them from having to work again. Fenriz has stated making any livelihood on his music, even though they are overtly anti-commercial, would subconsciously affect his creative efforts.
  10. Stryper is very much of the same aesthetic of Ted Cruz himself.
  11. He's one of the most right-wing governors in recent history, he's just as not as an overt Trump stan as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick or State Attorney Ken Paxton. MAGA folks literally just call anything and everyone Dem, socialist, communist, etc. if it's not their liking.
  12. @bronchuseven was still without power as of 4-5 hours ago on IG...something like 60 hrs without. my pocket of Austin finally gained power and I hope his did too, we're in the same area of the city
  13. Well howdy. A-ok. Me and the family were without power from 8am onward on Monday (2/15). 6-8" snow and sun that day but it was in the teens and wind chill wasn't over 0 deg F until afternoon. Still ok enough to bust out the propane grill and make a hot dinner. Tuesday was technically warmer but overcast and freezing rain covered everything. That day felt more grim. Both nights it was 52 deg F inside. We had plenty of food, beverages, blankets and flashlights but man, it was still kind of surreal and chilly. Thank god I had a shitload of batteries and some random battery radios/tape players. Kids were good sports - got used to no electronics, tried chess out with my 5 year old, daughter busted into her toys. Our goofy as dire wolf mutt loved it. Anyway water has become boiling required in Austin and some power is coming back. Driving is doable too - yesterday I managed to wait a bit and get 93 octane gas. That's the one thing I wish I topped off on before all of this shit. We went to a friends house yesterday who has power. It's been nice. Hot coffee. Quick but warm shower. No visible breath inside. Going outside isn't as daunting in terms of warming up. Work calls and emails are starting to trickle in again but thankfully not a lot of pressure or urgency. If our house still doesn't have power by tomorrow we'll likely drive down to Spring, TX with my FIL who has power.
  14. some still are, it just depends on what is brigaded or not. there are comment sections that will completely fuck with you and are absolute trash.
  15. Buster Scruggs, and it's vignette style so you can easily watch it in chunks
  16. Watched Hausu (1977) last night, seems apt to rec Not so much eyecandy as it is visual binge-eating of fun dip Been meaning to watch this, thanks for reminding me
  17. Really good comment section. Listening to her is mesmerizing and there's such a light behind her eyes. Everything she says is extremely coherent when broken down in pieces but it's so tangential and fluid it resembles cut-up William S. Burroughs-esque spoken word. Christ alrighty, one could only speculate who she was and what's she has been through.
  18. Goddamn, less than a month ago. So many great live clips of him, really digging this one:
  19. The more well-adjusted scientologists seem to be the most benign and reserve about it. It's been around long enough that there are younger folks who were raised in it and older members who stumbled into in the same era when it seemed like just another new age-y movement. There's a fair amount of Jehovah's Witness musicians too - The Jacksons and Prince. Rare cancer apparently
