  1. Agreed. I said that because that's how it's described on Bandcamp, but after listening to the samples it wasn't totally ambient.
  2. Just heard this today, I don't dislike it. I haven't really checked out Mira's music before, never seemed like my thing. But I might check out this LP.
  3. I do enjoy The Cure and Pink Floyd! An album a week seems like a good way to revisit a catalog, and try albums I skipped in the past (although often for good reason).
  4. Hahah thanks! Funny I hadn't really noticed the whole witch hunt crap until today. Hopped on this morning and saw a HGATR thread about Misfits, was shocked at the amount of people that a) had never listened to them b) pissed on them based solely on the post-Danzig version of the band, and c) brought up bullshit about Danzig being a cunt or whatever (and I'm guessing that was mostly from people who didn't know 2 shits about the band). Comments from midnight punk fully stood out to me in that thread, not only because I fully agreed with them but also because they were thought-out and informative. Anyway I called the thread fucking embarrassing and got called a snowflake. Ok then. Also have had a few exchanges with Uncle Retrospective as well, funny that those 2 did make an impression on me as well, seeing as how it can take a while to start remembering specific users/usernames after joining a forum.
  5. Finished Money Heist last night, awaiting the next (final?) chapter in December. I've really loved this show. Obviously it's not all realistic but you really get invested in the characters. Great job all around on the crew that put this together.
  6. I recently joined that place. Known about it for years but a few times I checked I didn't like the format. But I was also following them on Facebook for a long time so I'd get reminded now and then, and decided to jump in. I think I was looking for something to kill time when I was taking a 2-week break from house hunting and couldn't look at the listings app. I've enjoyed some of the discussion, though of course there's a lot I don't give a shit about like any forum. Moves pretty fast, seems like there are a lot of members. The software is interesting, but wish there was a mobile app. Anyway yeah, it's fine and I listen to a lot of guitar-based music as well so it's good for that, but not exclusive to that either.
  7. Mac/iPhone user I've been using iTunes to manage my digital music since the early/mid 2000s, and never moved away from it, Started to really digitize everything around 2005 probably, and by 2010 I stopped buying CDs as I realized I was just ripping them and putting them on the shelf, not enjoying the physical product as much as I used to. I used an iPod Mini to listen a lot while walking around and at the gym, but I guess I did still play CDs in the car. It's just that I'd also gotten in the habit of only having CD-Rs in the car, after having real CDs stolen from the car a couple times in the past as well as to keep them in better shape. Sold off my CD collection around 2013 I think. Digital collection is around 350GB, 45k tracks. Backed up on external drive every so often, but I like having it all on my laptop. Unfortunately I've run out of space a few times and deleted a fair amount of stuff recently (things I felt I really wasn't into anymore and weren't difficult to come across should I ever want it again). I need a new laptop I guess, it seems really inconvenient having things on an external. Not that I use the laptop for listening anyway...I sync to my iPhone and play that on the go. I'm a heavy Spotify user as well. I resisted streaming for a long time, as I liked having the files, until I realized streaming was really convenient and it wasn't a one or the other thing, I can do both. I think the ability to quickly create and manage playlists on Spotify is amazing, and that's really how I got hooked. One annoyance of course is when things are available and then no longer. You start to expect everything to be available at your fingertips so it's frustrating when you can't find certain things. When it comes to downloading, I tend to do it for a few reasons: It's not on Spotify. I absolutely love it and want it as part of my permanent collection. Spotify doesn't have it tagged correctly. I'm a last.fm user and can't stand when things scrobble incorrectly. This is most often an issue with hip-hop, due to collaborations and features. Oh as far as apps for listening to my own collection, I recently got really frustrated with iTunes on the phone and switched to Marvis Pro, which has been pretty great. Main reasons were bad UX in the Apple Music app and issues with last.fm scrobbling, which required frequent syncing with my laptop. Marvis has much better UX, it's customizable, and can scrobble live. I wouldn't mind switching my laptop management tool away from iTunes to something better, so I'll have to check out some of the suggestions so far. Seems like a huge pain, but could be worthwhile. One thing I wish about Spotify too is that it was more customizable, but kinda makes sense it's not since it's more of a product than something created to manage your own files.
  8. I didn't think to search for a Kirk thread specifically, guess I figured there wouldn't be one. I was wrong. I wouldn't merge them, though, since this is an older thread specific to CV. My bad. If anything, move the new posts since yesterday to the Kirk thread if that's possible.
  9. You may have heard of Richard H. Kirk's passing this morning in the Celebrity Deaths thread or elsewhere. Cause unknown. Let's share some favorite CV or RHK solo tracks, or stories. I personally got into CV in the early 2000s (maybe very late 90s) if I recall. Had been into industrial for nearly a decade and I'm sure I'd heard of them, having been such a huge influence on many of the acts I was into (namely Skinny Puppy), but I believe that was the time I first started listening. Some of the first ones I heard were Technology: Western Re-Works 1992 and Plasticity (which I recently revisited), which are clearly not representative of their early industrial works. But I liked them quite a bit. Eventually went back in their catalog, but have to say that The Crackdown and Micro-Phonies era is my favorite...and that's probably because my intro was remixes of that material. But there are still quite a few things I haven't listened to.
  10. Haven't listened to Task Force in over 10 years it seems, enjoyed revisiting New Mic Order yesterday. Gonna revisit Music From the Corner today probably, as I recall I only listened to the first 2 volumes and greatly preferred the 2nd.
  11. Damn, apparently hadn't been in this thread since April. I moved and I guess that caused a lot of changes in my habits. Still watching TV though. Let's see, what have I been up to? Dave: Hulu series about a Jewish rapper who thinks he's awesome. Halfway through season 2, watching a couple episodes per week on my own. Still good but season 1 was better. The White Lotus: We finished this series pretty quickly, quite enjoyed it. I hear Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers has a similar storyline and we may watch that soon. What We Do in the Shadows: Almost up to date with season 3. Like everyone else, enjoying the series far more than the movie. The addition of Kristen Schaal in this season seems like a good fit, but I find her difficult to understand in this show. I'm not sure what it is. Your Home Made Perfect: I've always enjoyed home-related shows like HGTV's House Hunters, but they tend to be very same-y and the repetitive format of each episode gets very annoying. So I recently searched for other shows that might be more creative, i.e. not so basic and came across this British series. Really enjoying seeing more global and modern architecture trends compared to the tired American crap. That said, patterns have emerged here too and I find that the use of the same 2 architects for every episode is a little tiresome, especially beyond a single season. I find the host Angela Scanlon quite charming and cute. House Hunters Renovation: Like the standard House Hunters, couples search for a home to buy and choose from 3. But in this case, they search below budget in order to make renovations. Typically it's a new kitchen, maybe a bathroom, a few things on the side. We're enjoying it because we sold our home in the spring and are renting for a bit while we look for a new home, and it's helpful to see what people are doing and what the costs are — keeping in mind when these episodes were filmed and that things have changed. It's good inspiration, despite the trendy designs people tend to with in their remodels, and a good reminder not to be too critical when we're looking at homes. Lupin: I watched both seasons in the last month or so and while the acting and production were good, it required too much suspension of disbelief and was really annoying in that sense. I rolled my eyes far too much. American Horror Stories: The new anthology series is comprised of stand-alone episodes, save for the first 2-part story. We watched the first part a couple weeks ago, and the 2nd last night. It was terrible and we will not be continuing with this series. Money Heist: Just started season 5 last night, had to finish Lupin before I jumped in. Still really enjoying this series. Never thought it could go on so long while I was watching season 1 earlier in the year, but it's still working for me. Never really know what's gonna happen. Danger 5: My girlfriend recommended this to me a few years ago, and it didn't seem available anywhere. Just learned it's on Tubi so we've watched a few episodes together. Spy comedy based in a bizarre 60s inspired version of WWII. Only Murders in the Building: Just started this last night on Hulu, watched 2 episodes. Murder mystery comedy with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. I have a ton of other series I'd like to watch in my various wish lists, but most of the time I'm watching with my girlfriend so it's tough making decisions. I'm trying to get her to watch The Wire with me, as she's never seen it and I'd love to rewatch.
  12. I see the cat's asshole has already been spotted in the video. Surprised no one mentioned the cover. Anyway yeah Jon Hopkins is pretty boring. I've tried Insides and Immunity and they're just decent. Can't be bothered to investigate any further.
  13. Low is a band I've been aware of for a long time but I've never listened to their albums. I've listened to some slowcore, but it's not something I seek out often. Seems after a quick look at their albums' genre tags in RYM that they're not really slowcore anymore, though probably still slow. I don't know, should I try this new thing? Should I try another one first? Edit: As I type this I'm shuffling a playlist of albums from 2000 (mostly ones I love but a few thrown in that I might not have given enough of a chance), and I'm about falling asleep with a Yo La Tango song.
  14. Nice surprise this morning. Played it twice so far, pretty solid. I like the fuzzy bass.
  15. Bit disappointed in this one after 3 listens. That DJ Drama can get fucked, he’s so annoying. Aside from that, the good songs just don’t hit the same way as the last few albums, and don’t feel as developed. Missing the amount of neo-soul present on Flower Boy and Igor. This feels more like trying to appease fans of his earlier albums, and I respect that as opposed to going even more mainstream. Though as much as I tend to steer clear of the mainstream with music I listen to, Tyler is one of those whose more pop side I like best I guess. Think I need to just set this aside for a couple weeks and come back to it.
  16. Agreed on Flower Boy, I’d start there and then Igor. I’ve only gotten through about half the new one so far today, and not paying full attention as I was in and out of the car. Not blown away by anything yet but almost anything in this style takes a few listens for me. I didn’t love Flower Boy right away (my first Tyler) and came to really love it over the years, and Igor took a few spins too. I think both of those had at least one or two immediate stand-outs though.
  17. Been a while since I’ve played either one honestly. But looking at the digital release times, 56 and 63 mins aren’t so bad. Guess just the thought of 3LP feels like a lot in one release, potentially overwhelming with filler. Broken up into different releases, things can feel more solid. But hey, I welcome any new music and can always break it up myself if I need to.
  18. Only if it’s double at most, or split it into separate releases. I like his style but I don’t think it lends itself to a really long format.
  19. Looks like a repress and digital release of a 2017 EP, but I’ve never heard it so thanks for the heads up.
  20. I’m very hyped, he’s one of my most played artists for the last ~4 years.
  21. Just learned about this in the last hour, announced yesterday it seems. Sounds good so far. Vinyl on Boomkat • Masterful dream-pop mutations from London-based Italian artist and Ecstatic boss, Not Waving • Guest vocals by Jonnine Standish, Marie Davidson, Mark Lanegan, Spivak. • Mastered by Rashad Becker • Artwork by Maria Medem
  22. I tend to ignore them as my time on the forums is limited. Always wished there would be a locked, duplicate thread in New Releases acting as a link for all Featured Artist new release threads that officially live in their respective subforms. Temporarily pinned for visibility. Sounds tedious, but we only have a handful of Featured Artists and releases aren't super frequent.
  23. Looking forward to new-ziq. Wonder why AF and not Planet Mu.
  24. I think that makes a lot of sense. Like streaming movies – pay a certain price when it's first released, then you can rent it. So translated to music streaming, maybe you pay extra if you want to hear it the first month, after that it's available as part of your subscription. I'd totally be into that, for things I'm interested in but perhaps not fully committed to enough for a full-price download or physical purchase. Assuming of course that the cost is fair for a "rental".
