  1. At least he's being a bit more subtle with it... as subtle as one can be while still implanting a diamond into one's goddamn face.
  2. Slayer's album God Hates Us All was released that day, which really makes more sense as the official 9/11 soundtrack imho. Someone should make a doc about that album being released on that day, with footage of the buildings falling while either God Send Death, Cast Down, or Payback plays in the background. Maybe interview some NYC Slayer fanatics at the memorial site. You know, tasteful art stuff.
  3. Zephyr Nova was a random phrase that popped into my head when I was trying to figure out a name for my electronic music. I like that if you rotate the Z it turns into the N - works good for logos (not that I ever came up with one). Sounds aesthetically pleasing to my ear. Musical background... some piano lessons in elementary school. Age 9 I listened to my brother's Guns 'n' Roses - Use Your Illusion I cassette on my walkman, while sitting on the landing in the sun, following along with the lyrics. By the end of the album I knew I wanted to do that. So I started imagining songs and writing them down in a word document for fun. Had written ~70 of them by the time I finally picked up a guitar and began teaching myself to play (maybe a year later). At first I mostly barred down the E and A strings to emulate power chords, and wrote songs that way. They were mostly imitating Nirvana, Metallica, and Pearl Jam. Recorded those onto cassette with this cheap stereo we had. The following year (grade 6) a kid I knew from choir invited me to come meet this other kid he knew who also played guitar/drums and wrote songs. He just so happened to live maybe 5 houses up the street from me. His brother could sort of play bass, so the first time I went over there we were jamming on maybe 10 songs. I played drums on his songs, guitar/vocals for my own, and vica versa. That band remained together for roughly 10 years. For part of that time I was also recording industrial rock stuff on a Tascam 4 track (got really into NIN and Ministry). Grade 12 I finally acquired some music software (Fruity Loops) and started making electronic music, largely industrial influenced, but more melodic and complex than stuff typically associated with that genre. Then a couple different friends turned me on to Aphex Twin/Autechre/Squarepusher etc... which was a bit closer in style to what I was working on. Between then and now I've explored quite a few different genres of music, sometimes in bands, sometimes on my own. So in summation: piano lessons, choir, self-taught guitar/songwriting/recording, playing in bands. Goiter Sanchez was from here originally too, and I know three other people who also used to post here from Vic. Oh, and of course Essines! Possibly being on an island without much of a "scene" makes us more inclined to join an online music forum.
  4. Whichever you need. Apologies all for not returning drunk last night, as promised. I did indeed get very drunk, but was with a real live human the whole time, and quite distracted. I will answer toaoaoad's answers later when this brain fog finally lifts.
  5. It's about Asking Me Anything when I'm drunk.
  6. I would harshly chastise any soloist who played that note over my chord... with pretty much this, verbatim:
  7. The last hot cross bun in the bag, which should have been the most stale and therefore worst of the lot, was in fact the most satisfying. Toaster ovens are pretty cool I guess imho.
  8. there was mention of a G# violating my chord and it upset me.
  9. Keep that maj7 shit out of my chord. (nothing against maj7 personally, It's present in many that I use... but in this case it makes the chord unlovable.)
  10. Because the chord contains the A string + octave the A aspect of the chord is very pronounced, and without a bass doing to the contrary, it's pretty hard to reasonably interpret it as being something other than an A chord. But with enough determination I'm sure you could. Oh man, I know exactly what song I'd do, and if this one chord analysis is any indication... the consequences would be dire and never ending. Since I'm heading into town though, chances are I'll be crashing somewhere other than my studio... so no drunken song playing tonight. *just did a quick mental tally, and the song in question contains at least 19 kind-of-jazzy different chords.
  11. Good chance I'm going to be drunk again tonight, so let's try to get things back on track here.
  12. Aye, prawns are dope. I have not had breaded prawns in quite some time, and would like to change that. There's a fish 'n' chips place nearby that I have not tried yet (not big into it tbqhtyvm), and possibly I will go there tonight for said prawns. Thanks for the idea.
  13. It wasn't supposed to be like this.
  14. How else do you get across that the major third is in there? Does that automatically get added in an aug chord?
  15. The other aspect of the chord that's important is that it starts with the low A followed by the octave, followed by the interesting intervals. That's something I wouldn't know how to put across in tab either, and it wouldn't achieve the same effect if, for instance, the fifth were in there... which would create an undesirable dissonance with the minor 6. I love that the chord is relatively simplistic in that there's only 4 different notes (octave aside) and yet somehow there's so much complexity within that. Is it happy, is it sad, is it undergoing a psychotic break from reality? The totality of the human condition is embedded somewhere in that chord.
  16. Good lord he is the king of neckbeards. Is he making a statement with that? Gauging from the baby smoothness of the rest of his face I have to assume there is intent there, rather than just laziness about shaving.
