  1. Always a bit wary to make judgements on ae after a few listens but for me as well this is a definite step up from elseq. Some of the tracks here are them at the absolute top of their game. Just on another play through and l3 ctrl totally owned me. Those key changes in the middle gave me real autechre feels in a way I haven't had since exai. Not to say elseq is in any way bad but there's some tracks here that just have that extra something I can't quite put my finger on.
  2. Yeah I think the 1st track is excellent, a massive lumbering hypnotic beast with added cat noises. It sounds like it could crush you at any minute.
  3. Yeah this one's definitely a grower. Wasn't keen on the first listen but it's actually pretty nuts, having a proper flac playing LOUD helps too. Reminds me of their oberman knocks remix a bit.
  4. Haven't seen Annihilation yet but after Ex-Machina I can't believe that it's as bad as all that effects-wise. That was filmed on the cheap and still looked well lit / framed etc. One thing that has surprised me recently though is the amount of big-budget movies that feature shocking, immersion-breaking CGI. In Black Panther there were a couple of bits where you had to wonder what they were thinking when they left them in. There was a trailer for A Wrinkle in Time which looked even worse. Watched Pan's Labyrinth again yesterday and couldn't understand why a movie filmed for a fraction of the price using 12 year old tech looked so much better.
  5. He's been off the rails for quite a while now hasn't he? Definitely comes off as mentally ill / obsessive / paranoid in most of his online rants. Did his current patreon subscribers all lose their money? Not sure how these things work.
  6. Finally pulled the trigger on a second hand octatrack mk1, now in the post. I've had a year or two with the rytm and despite its flaws it's still the single most interesting bit of hardware I've got. I fully expect to spend the next two weeks banging my head on the table working out file structures and the like though...
  7. Well after a while to sink in, I spent a bit of time chopping and mixing some edits to see if I could fit the elseq stuff into more of an album format. Could be 10 years with a smartphone, or the fact I no longer smoke weed, but my concentration isn't what it used to be and even after nearly 2 years of listening I really find some of the tracks just a bit too long. The 20 minute+ ones actually became less interesting to me the more I heard them, opposite of the usual 'autechre effect'. So...ended up with: A1: spaces how V 06:03 A2: latentcall 09:55 A3: 13x0 step 05:50 B1: spTh 04:56 B2: curvcaten 04:40 B3: 7th slip 03:45 B4: eastre 00:39 B5: chimer 1-5-1 03:23 C1: pendulu casual 02:36 C2: foldfree casual 07:22 C3: acdwn3 08:16 D1: pendulu hv moda 10:03 D2: freulaeux 06:28 D3: oneum 05:10 It works a bit better for me as a single listen, there's still room for some 10 minute edits, but the middle has some trippier shorter cuts, quaristice-style. There's some great stuff spare like feed1 and c16 deep tread - I couldn't quite fit them into the flow of it, but you could make a great accompanying EP. Interesting fact: 13x0 step is 130bpm and chimer 1-5-1 is 151bpm.
  8. Been pretty close to pulling the trigger on an octatrack for a while, probably next month. Can't see too much here that would make me shell out the extra £300 for the MK2 really - is there going to be anything major it can do that you can't do on a MK1?
  9. That scene was one of the funniest things I've seen and I have absolutely no idea why it's funny.
  10. the originals didn't have much of that at all, especially not Aliens, there's lots of rose-tinted views of these movies that doesn't hold up to scrutiny (not saying they're not as good as people think, just that they're not judging modern movies by the same standards). it's easy to do, largely subconscious and related to nostalgia I guess.I dunno, one of the real strengths of Alien was that it had well-sketched characters reacting in a believable way when faced with a horrific situation. Something Prometheus managed to totally fuck up in almost every way. (Aliens maybe not so much but it was a very different type of movie.) My favourite was the whiny boyfriend who discovers an alien civilisation then throws a hissy fit because...well fuck knows...there wasn't an alien waiting there to give him a PowerPoint presentation on the meaning of life I guess? If the new one has that sort of shit then I'm out.
  11. At the time I remember someone describing it as 'a dismally disappointing answer to a question no-one asked', pretty much summed it up for me. I want to be optimistic here but I caught Prometheus again a couple of weeks ago on TV and fuck me it was even worse than I remembered. Covenant being a good movie will have to involve one hell of a turnaround.
  12. Some of the longer tracks here remind me of the longer 'full jam' versions of uviol and vl al5 that they played on their radio shows recently. The longer versions were interesting to hear but didn't really add that much extra to the album versions. IMO some of the tracks on elseq could definitely be tightened up in a similar way and you wouldn't lose too much. Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  13. Finally bit the bullet and bought a bit of elektron gear recently (a rytm). Been slowly getting to grips with it but it blows my mind that autechre could get this sort of complexity out of a similar interface. They must know their kit absolutely inside out. Still sounds immense this album, but no idea why fermium is on it - got to be one of their weakest tracks. If they had swapped that for a studio version of one of the bangers they were doing live at the same time, this would be the ae album to rule them all.
  14. Saw them live last month, look like they're now a 2 piece. Had a power cut halfway through the set but played some new stuff, hopefully there will be a new release on the cards soon.
  15. Yeah first run through and this is sounding pretty good. Wasn't hugely taken with the last ep but this is much more like it. Playing 'approaching' made my record rack vibrate in a very strange way, must be some serious sub bass going on there.
  16. Don't suppose anyone got a recording of this? Love a bit of seefeel and curious to know what sort of sound they're going for next.
  17. Good to hear they've got some new stuff on the go. Catching them live in London in October, a new seefeel album would be very welcome as well.
  18. Ah nuts on a train so no chance to catch this. They playing any new stuff?
  19. Just having a crack at mixing some of these down into a 'quaristice' style single lp. Interesting fact: 13x0 step is 130 bpm
  20. 5 days in and this release is going down very well indeed - the standout tracks are still getting better with each listen and a lot of the others are coming together in the usual autechre fashion. Except...at the moment at least I just can't get on with Elseq 2. The other 4 are amazing but that one just isn't clicking for me at all.
  21. I remember around the time of quaristice that they'd taken massive jams and then edited them down to one hour, then 20 minutes, then 4/5 minutes. Sounds like here, rather than carrying on compressing them they decided to release the longer versions. Still not quite sure about the 20 minute+ tracks but I'm glad they're out there one way or the other. I might try to put together a few 'fan-edits' at some point for listening convenience, but even then I don't think you could get this amount of music crammed into a normal album length without losing a lot of what makes it great. So although there's a part of me that misses a vinyl release I can't deny that this is the best way to release this stuff. That said if they decide to release a purple warp 12" with latentcall on it then I'm in.
  22. Yeah this is the one track that does nothing for me, at least at this length. Who knows though, a year from now could end up being a favourite. First impressions of autechre tracks can be misleading.
  23. This is awesome - I was at the Grafenhainichen festival gig and was really hoping to hear this in good quality. There was a very fucked-up German guy who kept shouting 'VAT IS DIS? IS DIS NOISE? IS DIS MUSIC?' in my ear throughout.

Hey can you point out a track of theirs with this? (Epic non-existant) Not quite sure what you mean???Should have been a bit clearer I guess http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yeCOgIaZyjQ Gotta love the breakdown on that track.
  25. That show was pretty mind-blowing - only time I've seen them that the venue really managed near total-darkness. My mate said it was like 'being in Abu Ghraib, but in a good way'. The monomachine stuff they were doing about ten minutes in made my head feel like it was turning inside out at that volume. The Glasgow soundboard is pretty close to that set - have you checked that one out?
