  1. I sincerely hope you are wrong. I don't really see the point in making music if you're just going to make stuff within genres... To me, all of the very best musicians are people who defy genre or redefine genres, just by doing their own thing. That's the sort of stuff that is timeless, and artistic, because it's not just conforming to a trend. I mean, look how quickly Salem went from being considered genius, to being a fucking joke. If I felt that I had to make my music based on popular sounds in order to get recognition, I would probably quit altogether
  2. yessss they made a new one. this guy is my favorite
  3. The album is actually called Vaervaf - Hipcatch, and for those who are curious, it can be found here: http://www.breakbitmusic.com/release/hipcatch/ I'm glad you like it, I think it's really interesting, and, yes, definitely unique. He has a talent for melodies too, even if they are usually a bit strange. Jux and Mesxico are my favorites off the album. Everything but stuff that is recognizably sampled, including all of the melodies, was done by manipulating recordings from a rockband microphone, primarily using his voice
  4. damn, now I want a kinect just so I can do that looks like the most fun one could possibly have in gmod, and that is saying something edit: also I favorited that frog video so hard
  5. Thank you, Gocab. Every time I hear someone talk about Crystal Castles I have to fight the urge to bring that shit up. I do not respect any band or artist who plagiarizes to that degree. Sampling? Great. Taking a whole song/piece of art and making money off of it without even giving credit to the creator? Evil. That is the most greedy, lazy, inconsiderate bullshit ever. I'm sure everyone has that "I wish I had made that" feeling, but if you have integrity, you shake it off and try to make something better. Also, I'm pretty sure that Crystal Castles has used at least 2 or 3 chiptunes from 8bitcollective, not just the one instance that's more widely publicized (although it clearly isn't well known enough)
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwyj3D13QhA god I fucking love snuff box
  7. I think that's a really good concept Cryptowen. I like that cube art, and I'm looking forward to checking out that project when it's finished
  8. It is quite good, and ditto on the childhood memories. as a PC kid, HL1 was the absolute shit back in the day. I have no doubt that valve will be hiring some of the devs. here's hoping it doesn't cost money when it comes out on steam
  9. wait, black mesa actually came out? seriously how did I miss this I was 100% sure it was vaporware
  10. been really enjoying a few field recording records recently so I bought a few more from discogs for ridiculously cheap

excellent post kcinsu. I totally agree with all of that. bit of a dick way to put it, but I agree with this as well. also on a related note, while I do like lyrics & singing in general in some music, I fucking hate it when it's completely sliced up. it is just distracting, and does not add anything musically. people get this idea that IDM/glitch is all about stutter edits. it's not. those who have actually listened to autechre (not just gantz graf) and other glitchy idm type of stuff know that.

Seriously, I envy you on this. I will not/cannot listen to music if the person who makes it is a douchebag, even if I would otherwise like it (last step and acidwolf, for example) because I cannot separate their personality from the music.

it's *decent* and as it's not really king douche himself behind most of it I'm sure, I probably wouldn't mind listening to it if it didn't have the name BT attached to it. the BT stigma is just too much for me though. also as it's more of a product and not music as an expression, it doesn't have any real emotion to it.

He said in a Reddit AMA that Binary Universe cost him $200,000 to make (and he claims to have not turned a profit but lost money on that one) maybe the high cost of producing that album was due to hiring people to do c-sound crap for him? pretty sure you're right about that. I think one of the people he hired for it was richard devine, but I don't remember where I heard that (here somewhere I think) so that might not be right.
  16. oh, was it from that discogs czech guy? i debated whenever to get this. he's got one of the lps from autechre's lp5 in white label too which seemed weird to me. how would he end up with two partial white labels like that? plus it's silly cheap for such a rarity. Yeah. It's fishy for sure. I am reletively confident that it's not a bootleg though, mostly because it has the right markings, including Porky's signature, which I doubt that Czech pirates would bother faking if they made a bootleg. Again though, it doesn't really matter to me, because it's in my collection to play, and it sounds good either way.
  17. got back from a trip to find these on my front porch Dream Continuum (Om Unit & Machinedrum) - Reworkz EP Photodementia - Fig. 03 Anklepants - Insideyourfacedubstepbeanstalktoheavenfortheatheist (copy #1/10 from his own personal stock, with special one-of-a-kind penis mark) Mike & Rich - Expert Knob Twiddlers (whitelabel, disc one only, no idea if it's official or not, but I don't care at all because it was $2 and I just wanted Vodka on vinyl)
