Half Life 2

Best single player shooter in the whole life ever.

I'm playing through it for the 30th time or so. Up to the part in Nova Prospekt where I leapfrog the turrets using the gravity gun so that I have 5 turrets at the second standoff, and 8 turrets at the last one. So awesome.

The episodes are a lot of fun, but not as good as HL2, in my opinion, because they really crank up the amount of Alyx blabbing away in your ear and people having stupid monologues before they unlock the door for you.

i am currently stuck in Nova Prospekt during the second time you set up the turrets? you have three of them? and you're like in a little hall. i think i might try to find a nice little corner or something becasue where i am trying to defend from, there are just too many ways for the troops to come and kick my ass, or knock my turrets over. piss me off.

tf2 is amazing!

I've been playing half life since opening day. I remember I lined up with a sandwich bag full of dollar bills and loose change so I could buy it.... damn I was young then! I've been playing CS since beta and tfc since the beginning too. Gawd I love valve.

you'll definitely enjoy portal and the HL episodes. Let me know when you get into TF2 we can play... i see you playing L4D on my buddy list sometimes.

Also if you are into multiplayer, Day of Defeat Source is very good... though the community is rather dead but there are still quite a few die hards out there and you can still get into a full 32 player server. It's a great multiplayer experience... way better than CS when it comes to a straight up FPS.

why did you break my ocarina

this reminds me of a crazy story my dad has told me a half dozen times -- it was the 60s or 70s and he was in college, he lived in a house with a bunch of people that liked to play eric claptop at extreme volumes and nervously indulge in the reefer, and occasional sugar cubes. one night, they received a telephone call from their extremely sleep deprived -- and angry -- neighbor:

"what's all that noise you kids are playing? the electric guitar is a terrible instrument. why, i play the ocarina."

he hung up after they were unable to reply due to intense laughter

my strategy was to hide in the little alcove that you get the turrets out of, quicksave, then pick off each soldier as they appear right in front of me. then quicksave again after killing each one, just in case the next one got me before i had the chance to fire. cheating i know but i was stuck on that part for about an hour and i hate when that happens.

there are many ways to do it. first try was going all berserk and kamikaze with all weapons available (shotgun prefered). if you move around much there's little chance to get pinned in a corner where combine soldiers can really kick your ass. it took me some tries and i really missed the trip mines you've had in halflife 1. i used a lot of grenades and secondary AR2 fire.

the other way is by putting turrets back in their "garages" by turning them around. this way they cannot be knocked down by grenades. you put yourself in the remaining "garage" and shot everything that comes in your sight. too easy and not fun at all.

the rest of the game is very easy though so i liked this part very much as i finally got the adrenaline flowing and felt like i was finally getting seriously chased and wanted dead.

putting myself in the little nook had crossed my mind after getting bum rushed four times, but i took a few days break from it as not to get too fucking annoyed. i may try that JUST to get past it (i think i put it on like "hard" difficulty as i recall). i think my favorite part is when you have control of the ant lions. my little buggy children running up and ruthlessly mauling those soldiers for me <3
