Here's the supposed explanation (I don't quite believe it myself): One explanation of the origin of the term stems from a story about a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue. The exact time was chosen because that was the time that afternoon detention was dismissed. If you personally smoke at 4:20 religiously then more power to you. But I never met anyone who does this. Stoners just smoke all day and then when happen to be rollin up before 4:20 they go "oh dude lets just wait till 4:20" or "yeah dude it' 4:20 man" (coincidence). I just hate the bandwagon that this day creates. I mean I'm all for celebrating marijuana... but I have so many friends who are like, "the weed is so much better this week cause of 4/20", or people who just smoke to smoke.
