Imagine the universe is inside a cube. Now imagine you have a rotating laser. Although the beam's angular speed will be the the laser's spot should able to move faster than the speed of ligh. no ?

Imagine the universe is inside a cube. Now imagine you have a rotating laser. Although the beam's angular speed stay constant the laser's spot should be able to move faster than the speed of ligh if the walls are distant enough. no ?

Did someone say Cube?

According to the Project Camelot types, the U.S., during Eisenhower's first term, made first contact with several races, including the P45000 and P52000 J-rods (humans on a different timeline), and the P52000 Orions to sign the Tau-9 treaty. But, I'm not convinced that any part of this isn't of some massive campaign of disinformation. ET?

ok so the article and qualified scientists were wrong and gordo is right

another thread successfully GORDO'd

... the fuck?

I'm just sayin'. i've read about waves traveling faster that light, which was the topic of discussion (how is it possible).

for instance this old bit: http://www.universetoday.com/2009/06/30/device-makes-radio-waves-travel-faster-than-light/

oh an a quote from another article covering the same thing:

"When something travels faster than its own wave speed you get a very large disturbance," Singleton said. "And these powerful signals that result, well, this would be how E.T., if he were out there, would likely try to communicate with us."

I just got an email from the other galaxy (I could tell this because it was sent through IPv8 - although oddly enough it was a hotmail.m82 address)

It was in an unusual, alien language but I managed to translate it. It says:

Oversteps sucks

honestly it's bollocks, information cannot travel faster than the speed of light, because it would fail the theory of special relativity.

the best outcome of this would be that the signal is a response to a signal sent from earth millions of years ago. :braindance:

As long as Jodi foster isn't involved

of ocurse that was my first thought, obviously i have no way to tell if the science behind that is O.K.

but then you have stuff like this (from a nother piece covering the same):

"Pulsars are rapidly rotating neutron stars that emit radio waves in pulses, but what we don't know is why these pulses are so bright or why they travel such long distances," Singleton said. "What we think is these are transmitting the same way our machine does."

which is pretty much what the OP is talking about.

Probably just typical 'science' journalism from somebody who knows nothing about the science misinterpreting what the researchers are saying. There's been a few documented experiments that make waves appear to travel faster than light, but it is an illusion caused by interfering waveforms, nothing is actually traveling faster than light

this was my exact thought - they could be using closing speeds, etc.
