yeah yeah yeah so maybe i deserve it...but after spending 570 on a tv...i expected a little more.

i got a 40" Dynex 1080p 60hz lcd tv for 499 (570 after tax &this new california 25 dollar "Recycle" fee) WTF anyways plays games great (in 1080p) but everytime i try to watch a dvd....fuckin shitz only in 480p (worse than normal tv)

i'm guessing it has to do with my 360....they dont have an hd dvd player, do they?

anyways now i have to go fucking buy an expensive ass dvd player so i can watch everything in 1080p

...i havent even attempted to set up the cable..my guess is that ill have the same problem unless its a high def channel?

HELP

did i get the shits end of the stick? or overall is it alright?

looks fucking fantastic though.

oh &since its 60hz theres minimal bluring when playing games from the movement. meh

that's why they have blu ray and HD dvd... it's much more than the same disk in a different package. You need to get a blu ray player... some have up-converting technology which makes your DVDs look a little better, but blu rays are pretty cheap nowadays anyway.

Dynex is Best Buy's house brand, and typically not that great, unfortunately. However, if you enjoy the picture, then that's all that matters.

First off, if you have cable, you're going to have to upgrade to an HD cable box, one with component or an HDMI output (your new TV should have several of these HDMI inputs). They should supply you an HDMI cable, but you can get one pretty cheap online, or in certain electronics stores (Best Buy does NOT sell them cheaply - try a Fry's Electronics if you have one nearby. DO NOT pay more than 15 USD for a cable 6 feet or less. You will alos have to upgrade your cable package to have HD channels. Most SD channels will look like shit on a HDTV, even with an HDMI cable.

Your 360 (depending on how new/old it is) should also have an HDMI output, so if you want to get the best possible picture from it, plan on getting a HDMI cable for it too.

Your DVD player should upscale the image so it at least looks presentable on an HDTV (again, use an HDMI cable for the best possible picture; component (red blue green plugs) if it doesn't have an HDMI output. The only way you'll enjoy HD content on your 360 is by renting/buying HD movies from the online video store Microsoft offers as part of it's XBOX Live service. The 360 cannot play HD content on disc like Blu-Ray movies.

You can get a cheap Blu-Ray player for around 60-150 USD nowadays (in fact, there's a Dynex or Insignia brand one at Best Buy right now here

exactly. DVDs do not run at HD resolution, there are fancy upscalers that get rid of some of the artifacts on some new players.

There was another thread like this. Someone was complaining about playing ps2 games on a HD tv?

Edit: Leave the chatroom guys alone, theyre far cooler than you.

I use my PS3 to play everything on my HDTV and it looks great. weed, get a PS3.

That actually is a pretty good idea - you'd be getting a Blu-Ray player, a decent upscaler for regular DVDs, and another game console besides the 360. AND, you'll only need 1 HDMI cable versus potentially 3 in the scenario I outlined above.
