He's veered towards a very Basic Channel techno-influenced sound on this album but it's still minimal drum and bass, just different. Don't think it got a thread on WATMM but I'm really into it. usagi Posted December 5, 2013 Share Posted December 5, 2013 I think these sounds, and the HD podcast in particular, capture a certain vibe perfectly. mainly like the (now-cliched) themes of the futuristic dystopian love-story, cybernetic sensuality, robot/cyborg love, etc etc. every time I hear, say, White Snares, I think of Major Kusanagi sleeping in bed next to someone, light playing off the curves of her shell. or when I listen to bits of Heart Drive, I recall scenes from Blade Runner with Rachel and Deckard in his apartment. I've described it pretty badly but I think it nails that vibe perfectly, more so than any other kind of music I've heard in years. I find it can be a very intimate/emotive sound, as well as being so liquid and exact production-wise. the drum sounds and rhythms are delicious. There's a track on the Exit Records Mosaic 2 compilation that puts me in Blade Runner every time I listen to it. But mostly what I love about this style is it just sounds like some happy medium centered between dubstep, IDM, & dnb.
