Here are the candidates for the "2011 Most IDM Tournament" pulled from the brainstorming thread. take some time to scan over the list and vote for anything that jumps out at you as a particulary IDM. if you're not familiar with it, then maybe google it if you have time. vote for as many or as few as you like. the top 64 will be the teams that play in the tournament, and the seeding will be determined according to number of votes for a particular thing. here we go!

 

*THIS SELECTION PROCESS WILL END SUNDAY NIGHT AND THE TOP 64 SEEDS WILL BE COMPETING STARTING MONDAY!*

There were some questionable ones, but there are a few that I'm going to be pulling for. I expect to see big things from Exo Skeletons for the Elderly and Abandoned Soviet Monuments!

I voted for anything that sounds like it would be a good subject for electronic music. And "music that isn't IDM" because I sort of want to hear a bunch of IDM guys trying to write bluegrass or something.

would love to compose music for an array like that

 

teleportation would be a good excuse to play with rhythmic pans or just generally messing with a listener's expectations of the sound stage

 

it would be cool if the items in the poll or future polls could be links to something that explains them. that's probably a lot of work but i found myself wanting to google a lot of them. people should campaign for their picks to raise awareness

I thought about that while I compiled the poll... but yeah, too much work to do that. and I'm doing this while taking care of a 2 year old.

I would be okay with abandoned soviet monuments. 1930sish Russian sounding melodies and synthesizers go together like things that go together.

Also an excuse to use copious amounts of Theremin.

On my Pandora account, I added almost every genre station then added another station for obscure artists, and now every night I 'Quick Mix' it (plays all your stations shuffling) and listen to that for about 3 hours before going to sleep. I think that is fucking IDM.
