As for Fred McGriff: He left voluntarily (he had to ask several times for me to deactivate his account, in fact) - I never asked him to leave, and the whole ruckus was over his disagreeing with my moderation and censorship of topics and threads that I felt were contrary to the new rules on the forum, as well for the comment I made towards him about what his wife must think of his threads concerning his lusting over the wine store girl (and FYI - the first thread was closed because again, some of you took things too far and decided to take Fred's basis for what he considered a good subject for discussion and went into NSFW territory which violated the rules) in response to a swipe he took at me in the Funny Pictures thread implying that the GIF I posted of a guy getting a bulldozer's worth of water dumped on him as something I culled off "America's Funniest Home Videos" and how family-friendly it was. I never mentioned his family, and my own personal feeling (especially in retrospect) was that I gave him food for though, despite his claims his wife is alright with him (disrespecting her, as I see it, and I wonder if she is/was aware of what he's posted on WATMM) making threads about how he sees other women. I'm not going to go into it more or voice any more opinions on the matter since it's not fair due to Fred not being able to respond in kind. Despite our differences on that matter, I always found Fred to be a funny, engaging member of the forums, and while right now honestly I'm not sorry to see him go, perhaps in time him and I can come to terms over things and he can go back to the McGriff most here have praised.

 

I hope that I do not get banned for saying this. It is your forum (a great forum that I enjoy very much), and you certainly can make whatever rules you want. I can understand arguments for removing the porn. I can also somewhat understand the arguments for removing discussion of sex.

 

But I don't see the point of tut tutting over the way Fred lusted after a woman who was not his wife. Lots of people are cool with their partner sleeping with other people, let alone lusting after them. You cannot take it for granted that his posts were disrespectful to his wife at all. If you think the discussion was ill-suited for watmm, given the focus you want watmm to have, then that's one thing, but it seems a bit unnecessary that you were morally criticizing a member for expressing feelings of lust for someone other than his wife.

 

I wouldn't ban anyone over reasonably voicing their opinion - however, I hardly think it's the norm for any committed, married couple to be "cool" over their partner sleeping with someone else - I'm not sure where you are getting your examples from. And I would offer that since we are not aware if Fred's wife is/is not aware of what he posts online, it's an equally wrong assumption to assume she's aware, let alone OK with it. I think it would be safe to assume the vast majority of people here are not married or in any long-term relationships (there's a joke about WATMM in there somewhere, I know), so perhaps my reasoning is being lost in the process.

 

I usually try to stay out of watmm politics, but thanks and I'll do my best to stay reasonable.

 

What I meant was, it is very common for people to be okay with their significant other lusting after other people, but not necessarily having sex with other people. So, for example, I'm cool with my girlfriend lusting after other people, and she's cool with me doing the same. This does not imply that we're cool with the other sleeping with other people. We're just cool with keeping each othe'rs imaginations free. If I found myself in a relationship with someone who got excessively jealous whenever I lusted after someone else, and asked me to stop it, I would leave that relationship, knowing that it would be easy enough to find someone who would not be so controlling. Maybe it's a Canadian thing, but, from my experience, most people have a lot of understanding when it comes to feelings of lust.

 

I was just talking about lusting, not having sex with other people. However, it should be mentioned that a lot of people are actually cool with their significant others having sex with other people. There is the phenomenon of the monogamish couple, which may not be a majority, but is more common than people tend to think because it is not generally openly discussed.

 

So, I find it a bit much that you disapproved of Fred's lusting after women who are not his wife. I can see that there were other reasons for closing the thread, and you also admitted fault in the way you dealt with Fred. And I'm sure it gets tiresome when people are whiny drama-queens over every decision you make (I'm particularly thinking of the talk about you being a fascist that was common after some of the bannings). I'll also say that Max and sup had to go. Posting in this forum was like wading through idiocy until those two (one?) were banned. So I'm not trying to criticize you too much. I was just trying to clarify my post, because I think lust and sex got confused in there somehow.

 

Ah, I see what you're saying - I will say I think it's a bit different when you are married and have children though. I'm not here to say what's right or wrong about how someone conducts their relationship - I personally disagree with Fred's SWSG thread and felt it was a 'firestarter' of sorts that causes the less restrained here to go overboard, and I also personally felt what he was posting was disrespectful to his wife, and unfortunately used it as a vector to attack him in response to his attack on me. I'm still a bit lost on where you're getting this idea that it's normal for people in relationships to be polygamous.

i just think we should be allowed clearly tagged nsfw threads again. thats pretty much all im asking.

 

Even with the new tagging system (which I encourage all of you to use - makes finding things much easier than the search feature) which would certainly make this easy to do, the problem is this site gets crawled by Google and other search engines, and I want WATMM to be primarly about electronic music, and lead more like-minded people here. If NSFW content comes back, that dilutes that goal as well as the added issue of NSFW content being cached by your browser - you don't even have to open up a NSFW post's spoiler tag (like in the old days) to not have it go into your cache. Sure, you could say 'well, don't browse from work or use icognito mode or something', but that's hard to enforce. Also mentioned previously is how some people just take things way too far - there's Playboy-esque pornography, and then there's hardcore gyno shots (Oh, I'm sure that's going into someone's signature) - both may be acceptable/unacceptable by anyone's standards. What's best overall for the community at large is what I attempt to do.
