The Great Porn Experiment

Masturbation in itself isn't the problem. It's the addiction the unnatural dopamine hits you get from excessive porn use, and the escalation in what you're looking at so that you keep getting better hits. That's why some people end up looking at porn that they otherwise wouldn't be into. It's like getting harder drugs. And your brain doesn't know the difference between drugs, porn, compulsive gambling, or just risk taking behavior. But porn is much easier to gain access to. It's right there on your laptop a couple clicks away. When you get your fixes, you won't look for them elswhere in your life, leading to complacency, lack of drive, sexual or otherwise. When I read biographies of completely epic historical figures from 50 or 100 years ago, they didn't have this contant overstimulation around them. Not just from internet porn, but the media and overabundance of distractions we have available to us today. Not trying to make broad statements here, but you can imagine.

well that's the thing, I think it applies to everything (the overstimulation). Having been to Cuba (and living in China, where large scale outdoor advertising is only just now becoming prominent), it's easy to forget how fucking saturated the West is with advertising. At least Europe tries to tuck it away a bit, make it more discreet (I'm thinking Starbucks and McDs). I think ads in general warp the attention span much more than porn.

Anyway I hear what you're saying. But I think it's important not to overstate. You're trying to generalize from "people with addictive personalities" to "every male". Also keep in mind that *all human experience escalates.* Do you think you can still watch clouds passing by with the same wonder as when you were a child? Is your heart just as ready to burst with emotion as it was the first time you kissed a girl? I'm guessing the answer to those questions is no. Also keep in mind, all of us will probably get to the point (at 60 or 70 or even earlier) where we don't want to fuck at all. Hell, I'm already almost there (I only really desire it around once a month).

Learning what you like is different from getting utterly jaded. For example, porn taught me I like interracial stuff but not gaping assholes. That's just me. I've wanked to porn my entire life and I don't suddenly have a desire to see more gaping assholes. I know what I like, and I look for what I like. So I think this whole line of argument is a bit suspect and bogus. Even if I was fapping 24/7 I don't think I'd suddenly feel the urge to watch pedophilia or snuff porn.

Furthermore, do you think the Marquis de Sade had Youporn? I think so-called "perverse" or "deviant" sexuality is more a function of excess leisure time, than it is of online porno.

You're missing the point. It's not about actually fapping, sex or perversity. It's the brain's addiction to dopamine and how it physically changes the brain when overly stimulated over long periods of time and especially in youth where neuroplasticity is still very high. I've been watching crazy-ass porn every day(almost, and many times a day too) since I was a teenager and I can tell you that what he is saying is very real. I can fuck for hours without coming, but when I'm jerking off to porn online I can come in seconds when I find the right "shock value" to give me the dopamine spike.

And the problem was of course that I didn't realize that it was affecting me until it got to the point where I have some strange case of ED when I'm with girls.. To give you an example, this January the 22nd was my birthday and I ended up having a threesome with two women in their late 20s/early 30s and I had to fuck for like an hour and then end up in a 69 with one of them while the other one was fucking my ass with a dildo and sucking my balls just to come. Had I not been a porn/dopamine addict I'm pretty sure I would have come a lot faster in that highly "sexual" scenario.

Maybe I'm just fucked up? But it's worth giving it a shot to see if anything improves for me.

i'd like to think, that in avoiding internet porno (the new age hardcore stuff) - soft-core images of lovely ladies nude, or vintage/retro porn films are OK, rather, a better substitution to view when one must relieve themselves.... :watmm:

"new age hardcore" - drum n' bass Enya remixes?

But seriously, I think you have a point. The thing I keep wondering is the whole "titillation" aspect of sexuality when you grow up - there's something a lot more jarring for a kid exposed to insanely stereotypical hardcore porno, than say, an old playboy magazine, vintage pinups, etc. I do worry about kids who get exposed to this stuff and then keep watching it from a young age. If there's one thing younger generations might not experience more and more it's that naive era as a elementary school kid and pre-teen when your knowledge of sex is absurdly confused and limited to inaccurate descriptions of porn your friend "supposedly" watched, looking through your parents rated R movies, looking for any sex education material at your school etc. Kids these days, they wouldn't understand.

And as someone else pointed out, one doesn't simply become more and more deviant simply from watching porn continuously or become permanently desensitized to sex and romance IRL - there's too many other factors that can lead to that. Personally I've seen smut like everyone else but that hasn't made the kind of material TRiP describes as any less arousing. I dunno, I'm for the whole moderation thing - less and less often is probably better.

It took me some time... I found it struggling at first, but after becoming more disciplinary and telling myself "i can do this", I finally managed to masturbate to this thread.

I feel like porn can be a problem with some men but most are able to enjoy the beauty in seeing a woman naked on the internet and still live normal functional lives. Beer doesn't really have any positive effects but it's still enjoyable to have a beer at the end of a long day. Most people are able to control their drinking but some people don't know when to stop and develop serious alcoholism. And just like the talk said, there really hasn't been a lot of studies conducted on the effects of porn, people shouldn't feel pressured to quit viewing. Nofap just sounds really unhealthy and i checked the board and it just seems like a lot of group think and people feeling shame for doing something completely natural. They talk about feeling better and living a more productive lifestyle but it's simply confirmation bias. You can feel good and masturbate, masturbating feels good for crying out loud. I don't need to starve myself of orgasms to end up waking up in the middle of the night from a wet dream. I know the video doesn't say you can't masturbate but i feel like nofap needs to be mentioned in this thread.

Yeah there was no talk of morality until you brought it up.

Nobody is pressuring anyone to quit or saying what's wrong or right. The original video dealt with the neurological impact of watching porn, and that's the whole point of this thread.

impakt - I quite enjoyed your story in the movie Shame, where a well-endowed Michael Fassbender played your part.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I'm posting it anyway. Here's a link to Melissa Murphy's instagram page with lots of before-after make-up pics of porn stars. Some of these women are hardly recognizable, btw. Pretty scary.

pretty awesome, the idea of 69 with one girl while getting fucked in the ass by another is clever, elegant and ... quite good

Yeah, I came like a fountain in her mouth when I finally climaxed. Would do again.

I'm going to try the abstaining thing for a while. Recently I've been looking at scud just out of habit, without any sort of physical necessity to. The result of that has been me scrolling through hundreds of videos to find the 'best' one, without any sort of arousal - that rings alarm bells. In the olden days before internet scud I'd be off making elaborate fantasies that were cinematic in vision and Brechtian in scope, just for the sake of cracking one out - now I just type in 'chunky redhead surprise bumming' into xvideos and voila. I seriously blame porn and Google respectively for my lack of imagination and memory these days, so I'm going back to my old school system of actually having sex with a female and recalling things using my brain.

I'm going to give this a try as well. I often times find myself cracking one out when bored online, and I do sometimes just watch porn out of habit, more than anything else.

As with everything, moderation is key I think.
