Looking for a good filter plugin

ceiling

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a good filter plugin, preferably an Audio Unit.

Been using Logic's Auto Filter for ages and It kinda sucks. I need something that has LFO's within the plugin itself to control the cutoff etc. can't be bothered with automating filters.

Any recommendations? I've got a decent budget

Can give you fxpansion etch for free if u like

Ehm...? Did you just offer a pirated copy of that plugin?

soundtoys filter freak is great. all of their plugins are great actually. its really nice to have a stable of bread-n-butter plugins that just sound good.  (i dont work for sound toys :)

Yeah, all of Soundtoys' plugins are amazing and they've got a huge sale right now if you're interested

I was always fond of the Ohmboys filters too, although I haven't used them in ages.

Also, don't forget that Reaktor is pretty affordable these days and has some good filters plus so, so much more. If you're in the price range of Volcano already you're already a good part of the way there.

Downloaded a demo of Volcano but was instantly kind of put off by it's complexity, was looking for something a lot more straight to the point. The only function I need is the ability to control the filter via LFO's within the plugin itself. I'm just over the sound of Logic's auto filter.

Simple functions and great quality filter sound is what I'm looking for.

I'm gonna check out Cytomic and Etch now : )

Ahh got you. Made assumptions on first reading your post. Plenty of good suggestions above.

Really excellent stuff in Reaktor but that's obvs beyond the scope of what you's looking for.

I still think Reaktor's a good option, because the Blocks mode they introduced in the last version lets you keep things really simple if that's what you want. It really can be as simple as just this:

After trying them all out i've decided to go with Volcano. It's got a great GUI and the sound is perfect, some of the other plugins sounded good but their just too ugly.

On a separate note has anyone got Fabfilter One?

I downloaded the demo whilst looking at volcano and just tried it out now. The cutoff and peak filter is crazy, closest analogue filter emulation I've heard.

One is great. Nice and clean sound and easy to use

can't wait to compare vermona retroverb lancet's filtering and modulation sections with the usual vst suspects.

analog filtering and audio rate modulation are one of few things that i still believe are superior in the analog world. shall see...

Not saying it comes close to the sound of an analog filter but it's definitely one of the best filter sounds i've heard coming from a plugin. I'm talking about fabfilters 'one' and not their actual filter plugin 'volcano' by the way. 'One' is just a softsynth that happens to have a great filter sound.

Looking forward to your review!
