Every Noise at Once is an ongoing attempt at an algorithmically-generated, readability-adjusted scatter-plot of the musical genre-space, based on data tracked and analyzed for 6,281 genre-shaped distinctions by Spotify as of 2023-10-27. The calibration is fuzzy, but in general down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.

On April 13, 1985, Danuta Danielsson - a Jewish-Polish woman whose mother was taken to a concentration camp in WWII - hit a local neonazi with her handbag in Växjö, Sweden.

Update: The neonazis were subsequently expelled from the city, and a statue was erected in her honor.

kathleen belew is awesome. haven't read her book but watched many interviews w/her.

also, rabies.. gotta be one of the worst ways to go.

Just watched Oppenheimer and it's really well done. excellent script. ya kinda know all along the sub plot but i like how they roll it out. cillian murphy is great. whole cast brings it in. matt damon's character is a bit of a trope but probably how that guy was in real life. can't really criticize.

i was surprised to find the outer narrative was a disinfo conflict between the politician and oppenheimer. nolan juxtaposed info conflict with nuclear war and showed that the info domain has power over the nuclear domain. it's an important point. trumpists overthrowing democracy would have international consequences. with the us military in the hands of a fascist regime, it would be a matter of time before that started to get pretty dark. that dystopia could be brought about by bad info spreading.

agreed about belew

Archaeologists in Zambia have uncovered a wooden structure dating back about 476,000 years to the Early Stone Age or Pleistocene Epoch. It represents the earliest known use of wood in construction by human ancestors. The discovery at Kalambo Falls expands scientists’ understanding of the technical abilities early hominins must have had in order to shape tree trunks into large combined structures. The findings are detailed in a study published September 20 in the journal Nature. The structure itself predates the evolution of our own species (Homo sapiens) by potentially over 120,000 years.

if this is legit (seems to be) it's really quite amazing. i've assumed the timeline is something like this, but it's pretty cool to see some proof resembling that guess. pre-human ancestors using tools to form structures implies a lot...nearly half a million fucking years ago? crazy shit. us and our ancestors have been quite intelligent for quite a long time.

Batcock featured in Science Magazine: How big is too big? Bat’s enormous penis makes penetration impossible

Quote

“People have always wondered why bats have such large penises,” says Brock Fenton, a biologist at the University of Western Ontario who’s been studying the animals since the 1970s. Even then, he and his fellow researchers pondered whether such oversize members might pose a problem for penetration. “The penis is too big. The vagina is too small. How does it work?”
