  1. I've been listening to this album a lot recently, one of his earlier albums, but still my favourite:

    Dune

100%, as Villneuve has said many times, Dune is a love letter to the cinema. First IMAX film I've seen that improved the experience. I'll go again if given the chance. Yeah, I would have liked to ask some questions, but it was nice to hear him after the film. He genuinely sounds passionate, and that is nice to hear, as it's at a remove from the usual sheen of marketing and studio bollocks. Mapes: It's been mentioned a few times, and we've talked about what didn't make the cut, but this time it was very telling the lack of Mapes. It does feel like a disconnect having her in the scene with Jessica, dropping off some sheets to Paul's room, and then Leto finding her bleeding out. I'm sure Mapes raises this threat to Jessica in the book, and it does feel like theres a section missing.
  3. Artist talk streamed live today, Q&A at the end. Had it on in the background, so need to have a proper listen, heard "Wittgenstein" and "Cosmic Ray Detection" mentioned, and he talks about the Virus series in the Q&A.

@Soloman Tump Great seats and view. I think the last IMAX film was a Star Wars one, not sure, it was that memorable ?. The barn where you saw Dune, do they do films there regularly? I love locations like that.

IMAX was amazing, deafening at times, but an amazing experience. I'm in love with this film, warts and all. I'd be happy with 4 hours for part, but that would never work commercially as you say. I have high hopes for part 2, I think if they shift the focus a little, and look at the impact of Paul on Fremen through the eyes of Chani - something he said in interviews, and reiterated during the Q&A - we might get to see a little more, and something different. The Q&A session at the end was only around 20 mins, questions weren't opened to the floor, but they covered the below: Filming & Part 2: Villneuve was intending to film back to back. He was glad they didn't attempt this, and waiting for the audience reaction was a better path to take. He had his first pre-prod meeting on Monday, after the figures from Sunday came in, to begin work on part 2. The gap in filming will afford them the opportunity to make improvements. Filming in the desert was difficult. When in Abu Dhabi, they were working in shifts from 3 till 8:30, before the Sun was fully up, and then back home to sleep until sun down. He said the whole process of filming Dune was like returning to film school. The Music: Villeneuve approached Zimmer at the end of filming Blade Runner 2049, and asked him if he was familiar with the book - he was, it's one of his favourites - so his involvement was there from the off. Apparently Zimmer never watched the previous attempts at Dune, as he wanted to come creating the music fresh. Villneuve was full of high praise, saying that Zimmer is a bonafide genius. For the development, Zimmer was off to "home depot" experimenting, buying pipes, cutting things up and trying to create new wind instruments. The Cast: Villneuve said that (and I paraphrase) "If you think I got the film wrong, made a mistake, there's one think I didn't fuck up, and that's the casting". The gom jabbar sequence was one of the first things they filled, and Villeneuve said he knew he'd made the right choice with Timothée - his first and only choice for Paul - and that he was "dancing around the camera like a rabbit"
  6. This caught my ears when I checked releases on Friday. Will pick this up.

    Dune

IMAX viewing tonight, with a Q&A session with Denis after. I'll tell him to sign up to WATMM and get posting some answers ? I'm sure the cuts will come up during the session.
  8. Missed the Ikeda that was on there, tempted by this. Released earlier today.
  9. The general public might feel better if they could own part of the election, maybe if they could do some NFT tie in... Considering all the lobbying that occurs in the US, it would be great if they branded each election with the largest bank rollers. Each backer could get a preroll ad before any public addresses, add their logo to the flag or official documents from the US Government. Maybe options to rebrand Air Force 1 for a year, or sponsor the army uniforms. President Biden 2021, brought to you by Paloma Partners; we don't just keep your investments in good hands.
  10. Always interested in negative reactions to art. Anything you can pinpoint that makes you think 'vapid'? It's not a style that I like, almost faux naïf. It's not something I'd spend any time looking at if it was in a gallery; though it doesn't annoy me. _______ https://www.instagram.com/aethanwills/?hl=en
  11. You should certainly check out the rest of the XERROX and Uni series, but I'd say: Unieqav is a great album of his more beat focused work. Some really nice tracks with his machine funk vibe. UNI CHORD is worth the price of admission alone (IMO) The two albums on Line are also worth checking out for something a little different, For and For 2. Two albums of dedications that cover a 'broad' range of styles for him. And the first Opto Files album with Opiate.
  12. ^Nah, this is an American take on Alan Partridge. There is no way those two aren't actors.
  13. ^Not cool, now I'm checking the scenarios where I would need archive copies ?
  14. It looks like some stores have already marked them as in stock (Norman Records). Hopefully this means stores are stocked and ready to ship in time for the release date. Stoked for both albums on vinyl, but I've wanted Chiastic Slide for a very long time.
  15. Those costumes are fantastic. I don't know much about Benin, or the festival, methinks a rabbit hole has been activated. Chantal Matar, architect and digital artist. Has a Raster/Alva Noto aesthetic in places. https://www.instagram.com/chantal.matar/?hl=en https://www.chantalematar.com/video-art
  16. I was getting some Ø vibes - in particular the latter portion of oval p-dance - should receive my copy tomorrow, will wait until tomorrow night for a re-listen.
  17. I wondered if the thread bump would bring back the annoyance about missing this release/lack of digitals. Nice surprise. Had both albums on repeat today, really lovely stuff.
  18. Not familiar with this, added to my wishlist (Thankee) I can see what you mean re sound palette, though I'm not getting the sense of space you get with Mr Noto's sound design. Aye. A very promising first listen this morning. I think it has a little bit of everything from his earlier releases, some of the percussive sounds bring to mind the Opto project. This could end up being my favourite album from him. would love longer version of oval noise.
