  1. ^ I worked with one guy that said Autechre sounded like a trainer stuck in a washing machine. He also said it was clearly "drug music".
  2. Nein. I just hope they keep doing what they do, enjoying creating and having the freedom to focus on it. If I happen to like and still get pleasure from their work, bonus.
  3. ^ Interesting, that looks heavy going in places, but will try and have a read later today. I managed to go book shopping a couple of weeks back, picked up a good haul, mostly sound related. This is now in the read list queue. Essay covers a few species, and there is an essay focused on bird song. Some familiar names in there from Touch etc. https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/animal-music
  4. great period. Damn, now I feel guilty for not including Chain Reaction, Tresor, Sub Rosa (love An Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music series) I probably should include Sähkö, Kranky, Spekk (especially those first batch of releases) and Room40. It still amazes me how many artists, labels and releases I'm discovering that have me falling in love, over and over again. Only happened yesterday after checking out the Tom Hall thread.
  5. Nice first post, and nice to read the welcoming reactions. Very very fond of the above. Label-wise, 12k is still an instabuy label for me, as Line once was until it moved digital (need to address this lapse). Those 3 labels - along with Raster-Noton & Touch - signalled a big change in my taste and listening habits. I think we have a common friend, a couple of give aways in your post, will PM you ?
  6. L. Ron Hoyabembe would approve. I'll have a read, there was another article posted earlier in the thread. Thanks again @hayhook have a lovely day.
  7. Thank you, I'll take a listen to those first, and work my way through his Bandcamp page, along with the these two new releases. "16 Levels" does sound rather Scientology like though, what do I learn when I get to OT level 16?
  8. Familiar with the name, and that he released albums on Rephlex, but I don't think I've ever listened to any of his music, or if I did, it was just in passing. Think I'll pick up both of these albums later today. Any recommends on his other albums to check out - there appears to be a shit load - would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I picked up the two releases on Pure Magnetik. Enjoyed both albums, there are some wicked tracks across each release. However, there's the occasional track that I find a tad too reminiscent of the CCO period for me. I find the sound palette/melodies rather twee, even if both CCO albums have some fond memories associated with them.
  10. Wow, this sounds fantastic on first listen. Instabuy. Just picked this up, along with some of his earlier releases. Not heard of this chap before, wasn't aware of the album with Lawrence English. I only started following SUPERPANG after the awesome Bethan Kellough release. Will have to check the full catalogue to make sure I'm not missing anything else.
  11. Missed this release under the weekly deluge of Bandcamp emails. Very good first impression, will be adding this to the wishlist. It's nice to see n5MD still going strong, and releasing on vinyl. There are some absolute gems on the label, I still need to pick up the latest PCM and Ocoeur albums.
  12. Shit the bed. He's taken the form of Lovecraft as a wry joke. Zucc is Nyarlathotep... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nyarlathotep Basically Facebook.
  13. New Arovane album dropping on 12k this November, vinyl and digital. I wouldn't have expected an Arovane release on 12k, though Mr Deupree did master his last two albums on Pure Magnetik... Nice autumnal vibes on Ephemen, sounding very promising to my ears.
  14. I've seen, and experienced similar. And once that door has been opened, there's always a chance... Had one mate in my wider circle get locked up in Thailand after a bad experience. He was spiked and robbed, and he was always touched by the moon before then, but seemed quite fragile after that holiday. Think he was a fan of Babylon 5 Yeah, Thetans. Thread needs to be renamed.
  15. My folks had a good selection of rock and soul, managed to 'save' a lot of their records, so they're now part of my collection. The Rocky single was the first record I ever owned.

    Dune

I saw this on Saturday night, I had some concerns during the first 30 minute - this was likely due to the weight of expectations - however, I left the cinema with the feeling I saw something fantastic. Still buzzing today. It was one of the best cinema experiences I've had in a very long time. I'm still processing it, I'll be heading to the cinema again for this, would love to experience an IMAX viewing. Hopefully tomorrow night. 1. The visuals were amazing, the first film in a long time where I found myself fully immersed in the world. I was disappointed to find the vocal track from the trailer was in the film, I call it the Lion King track, think it's Gom Jabbar. It just feels a little too on the nose for me. Regardless, I've been caning the album all week. 2. I had this discussion with my friends after the film, they raised the same concern, I actually liked this approach. Jessica is quite emotional in the book, albeit kept internally. Even the scene with Leto's hand on Jessica's neck when they arrive on Arrakis was welcome, as they didn't get much screen time together. 3. I had some concerns at the start of the film for this reason. It could be the weight of expectations, and I need to watch again, but the first section felt so compressed. I think after a repeat viewing I may feel different, as I was guessing/waiting on expected scenes 4. This film was economical with the book's plot. The Yueh reveal did feel a bit hollow. I'd have liked to have seen Paul with both Yueh and Thufir more, to show that his pool of 'influences' was highly restricted to a select group, and that Paul has no peers his own age. Maybe the fact of Yueh's betrayal will become more pronounced in part 2, but as his screen time was so short, I can't really see there'd be much point. That being said, I think it was wise to omit, or cut the whole Thufir/Jessica thread from the film. Let's see part 2 brings. There's already talk of deleted scenes that missed the cut: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/dune-movie-stephen-mckinley-henderson-1235035496/ 5. What would you have liked to have seen? I think that's part of the problem with the book and translating it to film, it's such an epic grand narrative, so the little people do get missed. I think what this film did get right was the concept of the Missionaria Protectiva. I suspect we'll get a chance to see this impact on the Freman when we see Paul as part of Seitch Tabr, with the weight of that prophecy... Aye, there were loads of traps, assassins left behind by the Harkonnen's.
  17. Great ambient/glitch album. Still receives regular play, along with his first album for Force Inc. Some nice re-issues on Keplar, interested to see what else appears on the label.
  18. While I have some concerns about the show, I'm looking forward to watching this. Seeing the clip of Emond's Field, along with Lan and Moraine, gave me some hope.
  19. Hmmmm, Ronaldo didn't have a good game - could have been sent off - but he's still amazing for what he's doing at his age. He does introduce additional problems on how Man U play though, he doesn't press or get into space much. And as Man U still have issues moving the ball through midfield... Salah is a great player.
