  1. back in the day i started with Incunabula, followed a few weeks later by Amber and Confield. i remember liking the tracks on Incunabula a lot, some of them were genuinely good but some were interesting in a novel/unfamiliar way. these days i would say Incunabula has some unlikeable tracks - i wouldn't go back to Autriche or Lowride. Maetl is ok but mainly just noisy. Doctrine goes on too long for what it is. i don't have these complaints about Amber, which i'd still be ready to listen to from start to finish. Piezo and Teartear are some of my favourite Ae tracks. overall there are weak moments but everything on the album is good stuff. so i'd say Amber.
  2. i'm loving the recommendations in this thread!! keep it up ???
  3. this is like when RDJ replied to a comment on soundcloud by giving a link - "SAWIII listening instructions" - and it turned out to be a guide to lucid dreaming. just teach fans how to create their own awesome music
  4. when i tried recording an original vinyl press of SAW85-92 onto a chrome cassette, it was the best sound in the universe. the warm, analog sound of this particular album - because of the way it was produced and mastered - cannot survive any attempt at a digital transfer. remember this whenever you're listening to the remastered editions (or, dare i say, mp3s copies). i'll probably listen to this out of curiosity, but of course it's been produced digitally and probably littered with artifacts from AI algorithms. really it's like two different albums.
  5. lol i basically got the same result. the questions suck on this thing. ty for sharing tho
  6. i'm loving these! there are loads more of them on the on4word channel. the Vordhosbn remix in particular is phenomenal, really building up some steam here. thanks for sharing.
  7. i'm just gonna say it - now that it's been confirmed multiple times that Sug and Rab read these threads and name albums after memes, we should just go all the way and speculate for months about an album called "bum bum nuggets". sounds like a fine Bogdan Raczynski collab.
  8. yes. i was on watmm god i'd love to hang out on classic internet again. flash toons, MS Paint contests, mods with hairy balls avatars, shock images in spoiler tags that don't work. you'd hear a five second loop of an aphex track and treasure it - never being able to hear it anywhere, not on youtube, spotify, warp store, amazon, no copies of it on ebay, non-existent until one fateful day you find an mp3 of it on slsk. and that would be the most magical thing in the world, even if it was something like GAK or stone in focus. to just hear the track in that sample was an impossible dream. that's my rant lol
  9. no lol. the links Ski Nell posted are all off the site, not WATMM. from what i can see, the Downloads section has very little content - a small number of threads with one item each. i'm talking about the original, single thread with everything in it: none of the links work - they all redirect to ifyoudothisfuckyou.com. so when can we get this huge, awesome collection up and running again?
  10. thank you!! the one i was talking about is June 1991 - my copy seems to be higher quality (192kbps) and it's from the WATMM downloads section, quite a few years ago. i have a second set which is not listed up there - it runs at 44:02 and it's labelled Autechre___1991_XX_XX_IBC_Radio___2_interview. content and format is same as the other sets. @Joyrex what is happening with the Downloads section anyway? the original thread once had some amazing stuff...
  11. that is one hell of a find! where did you get this? i still have a 60~min recording of one of their IBC pirate radio broadcasts, was floating around here iirc. never heard of another DJ appearing, and i don't think there was much (if any) homebrew Ae material. you have a lot to add to that era of Ae lore.
  12. no other genre of music has seen a roster of successful musicians spend literally decades struggling to find a name that isn't shit. and it's clear that no-one on this forum - or anywhere - can think of something better than "IDM". fuck it, sean can you just write a patch that is capable of naming its own genre? computers can do that now right?
  13. pay 0.00 and assure them that you support them by listening to their music on your free Spotify account
  14. "I intend to stay a bachelor, because I don't want to get divorced, and have the wife take all my money." this bit really struck me. at a young age he has such specific ideas about his power and how to conduct himself, and it reminded me of the Children Talking LP, which showed that there were kids growing up around the same time who were thinking the opposite: @5:05 (you know what i mean, the part sampled by aphex). she says she doesn't want to be a millionaire because she thinks she would have to be a maid to her rich husband! so basically this rich psychopath kid is already thinking and planning how he will inherit the entire fucking planet, while there were (and still are) millions of children his age who didn't even dream of a future. that's Britain. that's how we ended up with a series of horrendous Tory PMs.
  15. just watched. it's a good mix - dialog is always sharp, bg music doesn't clash with the eq and holds up through some tricky reverb situations. sound fx in the final scene are tasty. learned a lot about monster hunting. now that you're making it big, can you name my pair of HyperX headphones (naem plus)?
  16. gonna be listening with good headphones! ?
  17. amazing thread, really glad to see this bumped. since it was posted i've actually got hold of some Nekojiru material and i was not disappointed, one hell of a rabbit hole to get into. RIP
  18. i've just realised that for ages - and idk when it started - every time i scroll down and read a youtube comments section, everyone is positive, giving praise, being supportive and at least 90% of them have something meaningful to say. now that is scientifically impossible. you all remember the arguments and degenerate opinions of classic youtube - humanity hasn't changed and this can only be the result of mind-bending AI fuckery. is it possible that these positive comments are all just auto-generated? google can do that now right? tell me if you're seeing the same thing as me because i am panicking. if i discover today that everyone on the planet had figured out how to show empathy and spell properly i will lose my fucking shit.
  19. i've done this. a few months ago i walked down a highway through thick trees in perfect darkness listening to SAW2, and it was awesome. but i kept doing it. last week i was really depressed and i tried the same route with SAW2 and i just felt numb to it and not scared at all (i was scared of how my life is turning out but that doesn't count obv.)
  20. the discogs listing was mainly written by fans. there are published record guidelines out there - the point is Old Tunes were never meant to be "albums" and it's really obvious. Twoism should count though, that one got a major release endorsed by BoC.
  21. great poll, i'm excited to see how this plays out. but i think you should remove BoC Maxima and Old Tunes because they're not real albums. if i was a major warp artist i wouldn't like it if people were comparing albums that took me eight years, to a bunch of folders of random experiments i did in audacity that i uploaded to soundcloud when i was 14. just sayin'
  22. i remember RDJ said that Bogdan Raczynski was a huge inspiration for Drukqs because he was also doing crazy stuff with trackers around the same time as him... i have a huge folder of these NES audio files by BR but i had no idea they were on youtube until just now
  23. the site looks different when you're not logged in. i just logged in from my laptop and clicked Sign Up instead of Sign In (which is smaller, and faded out). so it took me from the "Sign Up" page, to the login prompt, then back to the "Sign Up" page once i was logged in. that pages tells you about all the paid subscriptions. basically if i hadn't seen the site for a long time, and i logged in like this, i would think "it's asking me to buy a subscription? but i thought i already had an account?" don't want that to happen.
