  1. I think you're a bit too much going for the hype. From the transformer architecture it's clear how important the architecture and the data are for its success. The claim to build a brain also needs both: an architecture and a lot of data (parameters). We're not there yet. Not by a long shot. You can't just train a different architecture on the same data as chatGPT (the internet) and think something entirely different pops out on the other side of learning. This brain "dream" requires a different kind of approach.
  2. This isn't news or a surprise, right? Not sure what's the significance. Neural networks have been around since the 70s. And since roughly 2010's I believe, the complexity of those networks have increased and the term "deep learning" is put on top of it. It's not some dark art or anything.
  3. Facebook? (I'm not on FB, so honestly no idea!) Like to know as well, btw. ? There's a bunch of self released tracks according to discogs. And I have none of them ?
  4. sounds more like bach to me ? good one though. well played ?
  5. Living the free life in the U S of A. ?? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/20/north-carolina-shooting-girl-parents-basketball-yard
  6. this thread is now about michael jordan! everybody wants to be like mike!
  7. i cannot help but wonder why vinyl keeps on being a thing. using fossils and all that. The climate footprint of vinyls compared to digitals... is that even a fair comparison?
  8. looks like a match! i have an apple airport express connected to my receiver (a nad c368). the airport has a digital connection, so d/a is done by my receiver. works fine for me. wouldn't work on a 70s receiver, im afraid.
  9. Are f-ing kidding me? Not sure if youre aware of frusciantes efforts in electronic music. If you are please agree to disagree. But calling him too limited as a musician… my god, most of the artists were talking about here are even more limited… wtf!?
  10. In bullets: - he should release the music he wants to - I would def be interested in hearing tunes from his archives! (also because I'm just not into his newer stuff. ... sowwwwwie) - please do a collaboration with john frusciante! that would be amazeballs!
  11. lossy vs lossless intelligence i encode my intelligence lossy. it shrinks the size, and i don't even notice the difference ?
  12. Pivot tables most underrated invention of previous century
  13. I read this post of yours. I didn't refuse to read posts in general. I just don't go with the "read my comment i wrote somewhere else" BS. This is not a work environment. It's not my job to invest in and keep track of everything ever said around here. If you disagree, I'm happy to support you having an opinion I disagree with. watmmmmmm 666th post party ??
  14. We also need tolerance. It's not realistic to expect an academic level of accuracy in public discussions. But I would agree that real expertise is completely undervalued in public discussions. Not your point, but could be. Fair enough, I guess. But complaining about it only makes life hard. Can't be bothered, tbh. Just like I can't be bothered to track your entire comment history. Even within this thread. Going back one or two pages? Sorry, man. Would you be arsed to check my pervious comments? I assume not. (no disrespect!)
  15. You sound conflicted. In your other post you seemed to criticize the use of concepts like knowledge, consciousness, intelligence, language model and what not. And at the same time you crave a more philosophy in our society. Perhaps it’s not philosophical savvy, but I see it everywhere. Quantity is not the issue I’m guessing. But quality is? Or rather, those slaves devoted to the morally bankrupt tech sector? But is that because of a lack of philosophy in our society? I’d love to take the opposite side of the argument! ? Here’s a bunch of silly thoughts: - even if people would be more philosophically savvy, they’d still show interest in tech. - who’s to say a more philosophical society isnt morally bankrupt? (Looks at ancient greece)
  16. I dont understand the problem with using a term like language model. Its a technical term thats fairly concrete as opposed to wishy washy try-hard self serving pseudo philosophy lingo. A markov chain based on some corpus is a language model. Or a statistical representation of a collection of texts, if you will. And its perfectly relevant in the context of chatGPT. or, as wiki says: I would agree with being hesitant to fall into the trap of “theory of mind” kind of arguments when it comes to chatGPT, though. Or the “hey look, it’s sentient!” kind of response. But people are perfectly free to go there.
