  1. Play this card right, and you don’t even need employment! You’ve got a son that brings in the wealth. Well done! XD
  2. Two points. You’re making a broad statement about ML which is simply incorrect. When people mention those black boxes, they’re usually talking about deep neural nets (or more general neural networks). There are plenty ML techniques which produce deterministic models which aren’t black boxes. Decision trees are the most straightforward examples of these. And with regard to the “black boxes” I would disagree that no-one knows how they work as well. Technically and functionally I’d argue we understand them as well as your basic microwave oven in your kitchen. Sure, the models is way more complex than a decision tree. But in the end, a language model like chatgpt is inherently more complex. But that doesn’t mean no-one knows how they work. Or worse, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to know how they work. Regardless of the degree of non-determinism. Which is similar to our own language model which is inside our head, btw. That language model is equally a black box I would say. And non-deterministic. (But is it really non-deterministic though? Or does it only appear that way?) Which brings me to the second point. Which is about the Chinese room argument a number of people have referred to. It’s an old argument, which imo wrongly assumes there’s such a thing as understanding ( that we understand). It’s similar to free will, consciousnesses and all other things related to “hard”-AI. And the hard part of those things is - imo - we don't understand those concepts. But we all “experience” them. So it must be real, right? Well, not so fast. The world isn’t flat either, right? And the Galaxy doesn’t revolve around earth either. When it comes to the Chinese Room, one could make an argument that it doesn't even matter what happens inside it. As long as it produces good (or good enough, if the tasks get more complex) results we could simply assume there’s an understanding of what is right or wrong, even though we can’t pin point properly where that understanding exists. (The person inside doesn't understand) In this argument, understanding becomes some behavioral almost zombie like feature. Which is admittedly hard to swallow ( thatswhatshesaid). But at this point in time, with our current understanding of consciousness and allthat other hard stuff, It’s more an emotional argument than a rational one. We just don,t know. And worse, we might be surprised when we finally do. Perhaps were all chinese rooms…
  3. That's almost like a legal argument, isn't it? You cannot held an AI accountable. You need to be human to be held accountable. Which is a fair argument, btw. Don't get me wrong. But implicitly, there's also a fair argument behind vkxwz's question. Namely, that on a certain level there isn't much difference between an AI copying and a human copying. Some might argue the understanding part is what signifies the difference. But IMO, much of what people think or do are based on an unconscious layer. And there's only a small % of our neural activity that we are aware of. In this sense, there's not much between the two. But, having made that argument, I fairly well understand I've brought myself in a difficult position in this legal perspective. One which is difficult or impossible to defend.
  4. Sorry to hear about the divorce. One thing that struck me about your previous post was the "deep spiritual connection" part. While I can understand this signifies strong feelings and emotions, the fact you also said "she didn't give a sh$t" gives me a bunch of red flags. I'd be weary to not project too many of those "deep spiritual connections" on her, for it looks like you two don't see eye to eye on that. At least, not at this point in time. I have no idea of the history you two have. It is just that if I look at my personal mistakes in that area, I know I can see and feel things in a way such that it feels like it is mutual, while in reality it just isn't. And it always pains to wake up to that idea. Like ignatius says, better to keep it business-like. Even more important given you still have feelings for her. The more your feelings are different to hers, the harder you will push her away when you push them onto her, I guess.
  5. On the whole, Arg was the better team, but after a while I got annoyed so much by the argentinian display of fakery in battles, I was wildly supportive of France. The ref could have given a couple of yellows for the argentinian fakeries. Or what its called. Schwalbe or sumsuch
  6. +10 points for that gif alone! ? (and bought the album. couldnt resist the legowelt dub combo)
  7. We should invite it to join watmm! He could bring his simple friend markov too
  8. Indeed! thx! Didn't realise Autechre were completely unknown at that point in time. And they ended up on a compilation with a bunch of big names in the scene. What that meant to them. Interesting to hear.
  9. yeah. a colleague - who is a general practitioner (non active) - initially didn't have longterm symptoms after his episode. but he slowly developed slowly some longterm symptoms in the weeks after. (brainfog thing. difficulty focussing) so it's still pretty scary. personally, i went back to my exercise schedule as soon as possible. just to get over that first rough spot where you have to start all over again. in the past i also experienced success with starting exercising pretty soon after serious flue/cold. to get back into the groove/habit again. get your head in that space, even though you still lack the power. That power slowly returns if you dont force too much.
  10. was on the rona a month ago. i survived without any long term shit. well, apart from the super resistance! ;D had 5 days of flue/cold symptoms, with the peak in the first night. That night was pretty f-ing rough. had a broken night where a couldn't sleep long than an hour in a go. After every hour i simply awoke because of the sensation my head was going to explode. probably also due because i wasn't smart enough to put two pillows under my head. second night used a second pillow and things improved significantly. Apart from that, i experienced it as a severe cold. very short, but severe. was vaxxed a year ago. no boosters in the meantime. after those 5 days my throat was still pretty sensitive. a couple of diners with a bunch of friends i had since there were some annoying coughs. really annoying. coughing during a pandemic makes people nervous. but everything seems to be normal now.
  11. Had to dig this thread up. He just posted a long interview with Billy Corgan. Interesting stuff, imo. And 1 hour 5 mins in, Billy says he loves to look at his videos! LOL Grumpy old rockers these days ;D
  12. Not sure if this has been posted already, but the interview on juno is pretty interesting. (was wondering who Emma was from the signed artwork in silentvisions post. and google got this interview. was emma catnip, the visual (AI) artist) https://www.juno.co.uk/junodaily/2022/10/25/plaid-interview-electronic-music-and-sci-fi-are-places-where-youll-be-at-the-edge-of-all-sorts-of-ideas/
  13. These aren't new uploads? What's the deal? In case anyone is wondering, the boxenergyremix is still the same 192kbps mp3 as first uploaded ages ago (before soundcloud existed). and not a better version/rip edit: didn't see it was a poll!! sorry!!!! my bad. too much coffee with my own piss i guess boxenergy mix is winrar ofcourse
  14. Skipped a few tracks and thought: i need this in my life! Bought. Good shit, dgohn! ;D
  15. Remember kids, since Marx passed the world has stood still. The world is exactly the same as it was back then. *hops on conveyor belt to join the rest of the working gang
  16. Should be a concept album inspired by "the scene"
  17. Enjoyed this interview with Fiona Hill very much. Also goes into the election and all that
  18. There was a track on Tricky's Maxinquaye which I always skipped: Brand new you're retro. Not a bad track, but it completely went against the flow of the rest of the album. As if a good trip turned bad instantly. Album would have been perfect without it, imo. I'm a moron! ?
  19. Depends. If I’m forced to buy the whole album, but I’m only interested in one or two tracks, I’ll pay for an EP. If the whole album is quality I pay for the whole thing. Usually I go with $2 per track as a minimum and see where I end up. And combine that with how much the music means to me. So there’s a potential bonus. (The minimum is stupid, thinking about it. As life is getting more expensive so basically I’m supporting artists less and less as inflation kicks in) I do want to mention that I prefer artists naming a price though. The name your price thing shouts “ i think it’s worthless, but you can pay all you want”. As if it’s OK to think its worthless as well. Dont like it.
