MGMT - LOSS OF LIFE [February 23th 2k24]
Dave3 replied to cruising for burgers's topic in New & Upcoming Releases
So has anyone listened to this yet? I saw it's making the rounds early today. As for Beck, I've been a fan since Mellow Gold. MG and Odelay are favorites, as is One Foot in the Grave. Midnite Vultures is good but it's mastered way too loud. Mutations is also really good. Guero is a lot like Odelay but with more money. Not a favorite but I love a lot of stuff on it. Colors is much better than I expected it to be. Hyperspace is... good? It's good. I can't really listen to Sea Change or Morning Phase, too depressing. Also, his early, pre-fame stuff is nuts and awesome! Lots of weird noise, folk, hip-hop experiments. I wish he'd reissue some of those recordings. His cover of GG Allin's Tough Fuckin' Shit is hilariously good! -
It's official. Yoni Wolf just put an earlier vocal take on the instrumental and released it on a mixtape.

Gordy - Double Stack iMac (January 13, 2024)
Dave3 replied to silentvision's topic in New & Upcoming Releases
It's funny to see this starting to make the rounds now. Most of this (minus the first four tracks) was apparently on a Bandcamp page with no purchase price. This was spotted and pointed out to the Avalanches community who were surprised and really excited. I guess there was some panic because it got pulled offline for a few days before finally being released, and with two bonus tracks if you purchase it. Now I've seen it on another site where someone is trying to insist the Avalanches are on it, which is not the case, it's just Gordy circa 2000 and the mid-2000s. Still, it's very good and totally worth your attention. If you like the classic Avalanches sound, a la Since I Left You and the El Producto EP, this will be right up your alley. -
Gotta admit all three are pretty great. The original holds up very well. The AFX version is good but it's always been a fight against the b-side, and the Box Energy remix wins that battle. I hadn't heard the Humanoid version which is very good!

I don't know if it was that big a deal in the long run. That comp is mostly ignored now anyway since it's not available digitally or, to the best of my knowledge, physically. They were in a crunch anyway. I compiled all the BoC mixes from lossless sources years ago for myself, though it'd be nicer to have everything from master tapes/dats/files/whatever.
-
It certainly doesn't go much of anywhere. Still like it though. Kind of amazed Warp hasn't tried to make an officially licensed remix comp for them. They've got enough stuff for an album length release.

It's such a unique track. Nothing else really sounds like it outside of Photek's work. As much as I love MO, it always bothered me that this wasn't on it, especially since The Fifth Column is. Would've been lovely to see it as a bonus track for the vinyl reissue or as a separate 12" reissue. Seriously, nothing else like it, which is saying something because there really isn't anything else like MO. Quite note, I just noticed my semi-ancient rip of MO I have on my phone (I copy most of my music to my phone rather than use streaming services. Yes, I'm nuts.) has Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu at the end. Don't know if that was from the Japanese CD or if I just added it.

How quickly did you receive yours? Did you pay for faster shipping?

I ordered a copy. Who knows when it'll arrive as I'm in the US. It'd be nice to get a digital version too, but I guess that's not happening. Woulda considered buying the Nondi_ vinyl for her tape as well if I hadn't already bought the vinyl months ago. (sigh)

Aprilheights - Archives 1995-1998 (Furthur Electronix)
Dave3 replied to dcom's topic in New & Upcoming Releases
I gave up after a few more attempts to reach out to them and filed a claim with PayPal. They refunded my purchase, which most likely means the seller never responded to them either. Totally nuts.- 14 replies

I was working at one of the radio stations at the college I was attending when this came out. I didn't know as much about electronic music as I wanted to yet, so the soundtrack/compilation was a nice introduction to some different styles. Complimented the game fantastically well! Still cherish those early Photek records too. And if you couldn't stand Keith from The Prodigy's voice, you got the instrumental of Firestarter! Totally worth picking up if you see it in the budget bin. The later game with the exclusive AFX and LFO tracks was quite nice too!

This is quite nice! Are you putting it up for purchase anywhere? I'd definitely grab it on bandcamp to go driving around to.

This record is just special. Got a lot of love for it.

JPEGMAFIA X Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES

This album rules! -
Yes, far too long. No clue what they're doing, but I hope they're doing well. But I hope they don't forget about us. There are plenty of other artists and groups they've inspired, some of which are excellent while some are simply imitating them, but nothing beats the real thing.

It's a bit redundant but I don't care, it's still great.

I bought this yesterday and woke up to a refund this morning. Looks like it was scrubbed from the net. Was anyone able to grab it before it was removed?

Worst Album Covers of All Time (The Definitive List)
Dave3 replied to Joyrex's topic in Music Discussion
Stewmac and Stayin' True are pretty amazing. Definitely in line with what I'd consider bad. Flip, on the other hand, is pretty great.- 260 replies
