    I haven't seen his name come up here so I though I figured I'd start a topic. One of the earliest composers I'm aware of to really embrace digital technology. I feel like he's a bit of a missing link between the old school stockhousen/pierre schaeffer/parmegiani and modern sound artists like richard device etc. I piced up Pacific Tubular Waves on a lark a while back and was blown away by it.

    speedy j is way under appreciated imo. as your bc embed points out, he’s got a wide range of work. the ambient stuff for fax is so good and you’ve got a shocking hobby which ranks as one of the best idk albums of all time. his webcast stuff is awesome as well

    given that this is going to incorporate some aspect of loris morph in an easy to use tool is really exciting. thats the same tech that is used in some csound and kyma additive resynthesis components. It basically analyze the partials for frequency + amplitude + noisiness. Having the noise component in each partial adds a ton of life to additive synthesis. As madronalabs mentions, you can do this already in a lot of DSP platforms but making it easy is good! I was always dissapointed in NI's Razor synth. It seemed right on the cusp of something like this but for whatever reason the UI was geared for making wubba dubba dubstep bass sounds ?

Its worth reading up on his process and how it tied into cybernetics, for context.     huh yeah, my experience was quite a bit different because the one's i knew were pretty serious musicians, knew a ton more music theory than i did and went on to study in college etc. they were also pretty straight edge so polar opposite. there were definitely a lot of technical discussions about the music and some philosophical wankery about the lyrics because hey its high school. i was obviously coming at music from a different angle and spending time helping record/produce an album for them. fortunately this was at a time where radiohead was doing kid a etc so we had a place to find mutual understanding. i did argue with them a lot though!
