  1. 1- im not arguing with that assumption at all. 2/3- the pfizer vaccine is being found to effective against the major covid variants- https://www.scmp.com/news/china/science/article/3132905/pfizer-vaccine-stands-well-against-covid-19-variants-qatar-study https://www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n1088 4 - they are saying its ok to not wear a mask if you are fully vaccinated and not immunocompromised. that would be 2.9% of people in india, 7.7% of people in brazil and 36% of people in the US at this moment
  2. you're confusing dogma for science. science updates its beliefs based on the information at hand. you dont go by an assertion from a year ago. the who also asserted we didnt need masks a year ago. the changes that have been announced are based on the information available about the efficacy of the vaccines available. you have to remember it was a shock when the pfizer vaccine tested at 90%. the expectations at the time were something like 60% would be awesome. im definitely not going to try to convince someone to not wear a mask.. go for it. im just saying that based on what ive seen/read here, the indicators are these vaccines are doing exactly what we hoped they would do.
  3. what the cdc is saying, and in the news conference they sited 3 different papers, was that the evidence is that if you are fully vaccinated you are unlikely to get covid, almost 100% unlikely to need to go to the hospital from covid and you won’t transmit covid if you happen to catch it. this basically means that if you are vaccinated, you are good to go regardless of what other people are doing. there are exceptions here obviously, immune compromised people should consult a doctor etc. i have been as locked down as possible the past year. i work from home and outside of biking have just left the house (at 6:30 am) to get groceries. i bike with a mask on. however, this news, along with cases and deaths dropping in the US, is exactly the news i’ve been waiting for. once i’m 2 weeks into my 2nd dose, i’m done. sometimes you gotta just jump in the deep end of the pool.

the only solution is to never pass on another record again
  5. the cdc announcement today was good news but the headlines bury the lead. fauchi was talking about how they've disovered a way to build a vaccine that would create immunity against most coronavirus strains (i.e. covid19, sars, mers, the common cold) and has proven effective in tests on primates.
  6. yeah i always considered electro to be 'early-ish hip hop with drum machines/synths' and then later refined by drexciya and the like. techno derives from disco but with synths/drum machines. house derives from disco but with drum machines/soul samples.

  11. i was on friendster way back in 2001~ish times and then moved over to myspace for a bit. i remember hearing about facebook when it was just for specific colleges and you had to provide some person info to create an account etc. i had a facebook account for literally a month when my nosy relatives started pinging me to friend them or whatever and then i deleted my account. really glad i did because it seems like so many people are living in a parallel universe that sucks even worse than this one. that being said, i really miss the days when you could easily gather information about upcoming events outside of FB. there used to be a lot of great independent aggregates for that kind of stuff but it seems like most of them have died off. even upcoming.org (which is something similar but way different now) was pretty nice for finding stuff. meetup was not entirely lame for a minute as well. before the pandemic i would stop and look at flyers on the electric poles.
