  1. @Summon Dot E X E in what sense are you "agnostic" about the January 6 riot? I don't understand. it was televised live, heavily photographed, participants were posting and streaming to social media while they were at the capitol (deliberately breaking in to a federal building guarded by police - this is why I unequivocally say "riot" and not "protest"). tons of people have been sentenced... are you suggesting you can never have knowledge of what happened that day? because typically that word means "nothing is known or can be known" but I guess it might mean skeptic here? still, what are you skeptical about...? it seems like we all know what happened, it's just a matter of agreeing with whether it was appropriate or not.

  10. was kind of surprised that none of the comments (or the article itself) brought up Whitehead's process philosophy... I personally don't subscribe to any "objects" being fundamental (and I know how weird that sounds), so adding yet another fundamental "object" (time) seems wrong to me in a metaphysical sense, but it is a pretty cool way to measure complexity and categorize molecular life/nonlife in astrobiology... and it definitely makes sense to say that "some things are too big in time" to exist at, er, certain points in time. the "block universe" has never sat right with me and I'm fully on board with the idea of a semi-deterministic future (the past inside the present, if you will). I just don't think they explain the source of the "selections" being made in their combinatorial spaces very well... maybe I missed it? but at one point they say "the space of possibilities is so large that the Universe must select only some of that space to exist", which is kind of a deus ex machina innit is this thread supposed to be about outer space? whoops
  11. in less stupid and more deadly news, there were multiple broad-daylight armed robberies in the parks in my city this week. one of them occurred at the park I go to regularly, a few blocks from my house, on a day when the only reason I stayed home was because of a headache. five hours later, at what is arguably the nicest park in town, a woman got shot on her way to her car.
