Is there a site or wearethemusicmaker somewhere that has some explanations why particular tracks of AFX were given their names (if there are any at all)?

e.g. why 4 and not 44?

Thanks.

Few more:

"Taking Control", because hes taking control over teh drum machine.

"Father", because he has a father.

"Avril 14th", because he made the track on april 14th, but wanted to give it a french vibe because it's very Erik Satie-ish.

"Orban Eq Trx4", because it has an urban kinda vibe too it, sounds like the soundtrack from Ghost Dog by RZA. :embrassed:

"Beskhu3epnm", because his pet walked over the keyboard when he hit "Save as..." in Fruity Loops.

"Lornaderek", because his mommy and daddy Lorna and Derek are singing happy birthday.

"Mt Saint Michel Mix+St Michaels Mount" and "Aussois", because they're just pretty places.

"Gwarek", because one bird track title wasn't enough (Cuckoo).

"Prep Gwarlek 36", because he sometimes like to spell animal's names wrong (Alspacka).

"Cock/Ver10", because it's the 10th version of a song named Cock (after Smelly Cunts it was bound to happen).

"Afx237 V.7", because he's just tha mutha fuckin' AFX.

That's it, bitch!

^ lol

Serious one now:

He's said in an interview that his songs are either girls or boys, and Girl/Boy Song he says is a mix of both.

But everyone knows that.

Hy a Scullas Lyf a Dhagrow = She wasted my pint

A bunch of analords are named after computer viruses...

Digeridoo :

Because when he played live in Cornwall around early 90' (and he hadn't found any title for this song yet), people screamed "Digeridoo !" in order him to play it.

Tamphex :

Because he recorded an advert for women... and then mixed the product's name with 'Aphex'.

Alberto Balsalm :

Because he had a shampoo in '94 which was called "Albeto Basalm".

Ventolin :

Because his asthma.

Windowlicker :

Because in 1998 he had a french girlfriend, and in french, a windowlicker means someone who does a lot of shopping.

Tha :

Because Samantha Robinson.

Ageispolis :

Hmm... Good question.

Untitled :

Because he didn't find one.

Oh, realy ?!

I thought it was a reference to the Orban rackmount equalizer.

no my explanation sounds more plausible.

I have some Alberto Balsam in my bathroom.

Hehe, when I saw that shit in a grocery store I couldn't believe it. So does Richard really like Alberto Balsam or does Alberto Balsam really like Richard?

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone noticed the correlation in the style of these tracks?

AFX 2

AFX 6/b

AFX 114

AFX 237 v7

AFX Acid 04

They seem to be more experimental, yet aesthetic

Annoying beeping/foam laser, yet the melody just brings out all the trapped atmosphere (though the structuring was probably done by Tom Middleton)

Sounds that could have easily been used in an ambient context repeated at high speed for 30 seconds

Playing with a radio receiver, looping samples of it, and managing to get perfect rythym

Even choppier [equation] samples than the ones in 54 Cymru beats

And something emotional, yet totally subjective.

(respectively)
