Melancholy familiar stuff I used to listen to all the time during high school like Proswell, Daedelus, or Koushik. Also lo-fi stuff like Jandek or OCS.

Proem, Joy Division, some Aphex, Sigur Ros, "Iambic 9 Poetry" by Squarepusher, "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve, Wisp (NRTHNDR and Shimmering Hour on certain tracks), and "Bruise Animations" by Clark

I could go on and on, but I feel spectacularly lazy due to my legal communication theory papers.

I was going to say I refrain music when I am depressed. But now that you mention, I remembered I loved listening to recorded conversations a long time ago when I was depressed. Helped me alot I think.

No depression at the minute but definitely got some blues going on. Braintree's earlier post reminded me how well The Cure's 'Siamese Twins' goes down. Don't think I can go through the whole of 'Pornography' just now though.

Just to make me feel a little better, anyone else on a downer just now?

Not entirely off topic hopefully, I'm finding myself regressing a little in my musics as a result (Bauhaus, BMX Bandits, old 4AD etc.).

Actually, when I'm feeling a bit shit, I avoid overly depressing music because it sort of makes you wallow in it more. I try to listen to something that feels human, but not overly moody.

My Bloody Valentine and Miles Davis go over pretty well.

I'm almost always on a downer, that should make you feel better lol.

Listening to Built to Spill right now, Perfect From Now On.

Erm, sorry, didn't really wany anyone else to be miserable. I worded that completely inappropriately.

i don't. not only does it not help, but then certain music gets tied to a bad moment

I dunno man, what does help depression? I think sometimes its best just to ride it out. blah blah, what do i know. ha!

Massive, invigorating adventures outside listening to favorite music's on headphones will usually

clear that right up. Some of the most important systems in the body are reliant on momentum

and stimulation in order to function properly placidburp. Also our brains are like a bank to

certain extent, make to many withdraws without deposits and checks... r go'na bounce yo!

if i'm genuinely depressed music is just annoying and boring. but if i have the blues i usually just pop on something upbeat like the sea and cake or tortoise. i care because you do and the rdj album almost always lift my spirits since they're tied to very good memories. i don't like wallowing in small depressions, it's just stupid and a waste of time.

ska / reggae.

basically from my experience listening to IDM when already depressed really doesn't help.

Your avatar coupled with ska/reggae makes me think of matisyahu. Reggae and dub is a good choice, it's positive sounding even the lyrics are serious.
