Oblivion

Thank Christ, I thought this was going to be another suicide thread.

Anyway: movie looks a bit interesting in the sense that any post-apocalyptic story is a bit interesting, but I've little interest in watching a Tom Cruise movie. Going by the trailer at least he seems to put in a weak performance.

I saw a mudcrab the other day

Well well well... What do we have here? Caught in the act with no gold to pay your fine... I'm confiscating your stolen goods. NOW IT'S OFF TO JAIL WITH YOU!

Was going to call you out on this but then I watched the trailer and lol, how can it be possible to phone in a performance so hard you can tell from a two minute snippet? I don't know, but Tommy boy did it!

It seems the older Tom gets the more willing he is to throw himself around on screen, the last mission impossible he was being blown up and thrown around this one looks the same.

Also Whats with all the "end of the world" films next year, Will Smith is in that After Earth thing as well.

They're experiencing a bit of a resurgence. They had this before with The Road, Book of Eli and I Am Legend, but now it seems to be more futuristic end of the world shit!

Regardless, I'm a little glad there is a bit of focus on sci-fi at the mo. In theory my favourite genre, but so rarely done correctly. Is it so much to ask for a hard scifi movie? Like Primer, but in space? That would be boring wouldn't it? Yes. I'd fucking love a boring, inconsequential space movie. Like Solaris! The original. I love that shit! Punctuation, punctuation; punctuation.

I'm looking forward to Elysium. That has bald Matt Damon in it.

word, i'm with you on that 100%.

Edit: actually I have to admit, the lowest level dream sequences in Inception were pretty badass. The crumbling shore, and abandoned monolithic buildings. I love to see vfx used sparingly in the service of a story. Imagine if, instead of 100 or 200 effects shots, they focused on making 50 shots absolutely flawless...

Also, here's a list of the sci-fi films I'm looking forward too, you might be interested in them too. There's a bunch coming and most of them are apocalyptic or 'distant future' types.

Oblivion looks nice. I hope it brings something refreshing, I love how it's all set in a completely different setting to today.

Oh totally. But I loved Inception anyway, regardless of the general WATMM backlash against it. The effects in it were some of the best I've seen.

Interesting vid about the making of the Oblivion roller coaster in Alton towers i watched recently. Really 90's and nerdy. Fuck Tom Cruise

anyone else notice how Tom Cruise did something really weird to his face around the time of the last Mission Impossible? Not sure if it was cheek implants or botox or some sort of dermal fillers but he's got quite the Nicole Kidman thing going on right now. That could be what you guys are reacting to, in terms of his acting...

They can push back Gravity to 2015 for all I care.

As long as it's going to live up to my expectations.

Alfonso Cuarón making a movie set in space. Almost sounds too good to be true.
