"..In his written ruling, he said names such as Stallion, Yeah Detroit, Fish and Chips, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit were prohibited by registration officials. Others that were permitted included twins called Benson and Hedges, other children called Midnight Chardonnay, Number 16 Bus Shelter and, the judge added, "tragically, Violence". Another mother tried to use text language for her child's name, he said."

They forgot to mention that "Number 16 Bus Shelter" was the place where the kid got conceived.

My aunt remembers having a student named "Dinette" and when she asked the kid why her mom named her that she said it was because she saw it in the newspaper...

...probably in the ad section :cerious:

Also I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I know a girl named Bogan through my wife and I have yet to ask her if she's familiar with Australian slang. I'm sure she is, she's one who would probably find it pretty funny.

lol.

My partner and I wanted to name our child 'Loveday Wilson' if it was a boy, none of our second names just Loveday Wilson.

I think we were hoping that if you name a child a type of name (in this case a jazz saxophonist from the 1930s, it would grow to be that type of person)

LOVEDAY FRICKKIN WILSON.

Such a cool name.

I find it a bit strange that Summer and Autumn are acceptable girl's names, but Winter or er, Spring aren't.

i went to school with two chicks named winter, a spring and a summer.

Guest RadarJammer

I was given a really unique/weird first name but to balance out the middle name was the most common boys name for the year I was born

naming kids is a strange game

it is for sure. I think part of it is imagining your kid on the playground when he/she is 8 or 9. a lot of cruel stuff can happen in very formative years.

YEah it is actually a mans name from the 1800 however, I think we wanted a cool, African American jazz musician for a child rather than a weedy white british kid :/

the main thing is with names is that if its anything slightly out of the norm people get it wrong-

I cant tell you how many times ive been called:

Laura/Lauren/Tara/Sarah

People cant deal with Rix either- that usually becomes: Ricks, Rox, Rhys

Yeah dear god I feel for you, just navigating the Megan/Meghan/Megyn/Meegans/ and Kirstie/Krysti/Christys/ of the world is a fucking minefield. I'm also terribly uncomfortable with people named "Andrea" - even after being told how to pronounce it's guaranteed I'll butcher it the next 9 or 10 times I talk to that person, Ahn-DRE-ah? Ann-dree-uh? Plus even if I do manage to get it right it ends up sounding either abrasively midwest merican or faux-mediterranean-channeled-through-haughty-queen's english. Fucking fuck.

I think we wanted a cool, African American jazz musician

There are clinics out there that can help you guys with this (jazz musician and cool might cost extra though)

who the hell tried to name their kid Anal?

Reckon it was intended to honor what must've been quite an immaculate conception. Pretty sure there's a Juztice Roman Numerals III Anal Qeen V somewhere in the Book of Mormon too

*marks thread as solved*

Handy when I worked in customer services though, because mental people like to leave reviews on sites about the company I used to work for they would try and get your name so if they felt they had been hard done by/felt they were in the right about a case (I used to work for an online animal pharmacy, we had so many fraudulent prescriptions from people thinking they knew better then their vet) they would name and shame people that stopped them from breaking the law.

They always got my name wrong, it was such an awesome escape.

My brother's name is Jacey and people always say his name as if it were initials, it's super annoying. They also call him Jason.

ugh, I know, right. As a Meaghan, I'm constantly saying "it's not spelled how you think".

So really you're almost better to have a super crazy name because even fairly standard names people can't deal with spellings/pronunciation or whatever..

I used to get really pissed off when Americans say my name, they seem to be incapable of pronouncing Lara without saying Laura.

Also, my name is a minefield for many Asian language speakers. Sort of comes out as Rahlah, which Im cool with.
