Recommended Posts

Hi,

Pre-sales for our 3rd archival vinyl release of late '90s Rephlex-ian electronix from Dutch producer RX-101. "EP 3" contains 6 tracks of pure Universal Indicator style rave ACID. For those who want to reserve a copy of the lim-to-150 YELLOW vinyl version, pre-ordering is recommended, as it is sure to sell out quickly:

ARTIST: RX-101
TITLE: EP 3
LABEL / CAT: Suction Records / suction040
RELEASE DATE: 06/20/2017
INFO: 6 track 12" EP; 500 copies w/150 on yellow vinyl

Suction Records is excited to unleash the 3rd vinyl EP in our series of archival releases by a RX-101, aka Dutch producer Erik Jong, who recorded hundreds of AFX/Rephlex-inspired tracks from 1997 to 1999, which remained unreleased until now. Continuing with our Roland SH-101 themed artwork, RX-101’s “EP 3” (suction040) pairs the 101 with it’s acidic little brother, the infamous TB-303.

There’s been a lot of renewed interest and hype surrounding the revival of acid techno in recent years, but RX-101’s acid offerings are not the slow ’n slinky variety favoured by most of today’s acid revivalists…. Instead, “EP 3” contains 6 tracks of crunchy, blown out, high-octane rave acid… Long-time AFX/Rephlex fans will recognize the sound immediately - the 6 tracks found on “EP 3” are eerily reminiscent of those sought-after Rephlex classics, the Universal Indicator series of 12”s - released anonymously by Aphex Twin and his Kosmic Kommando on Rephlex from 1992-1995.

“EP 3” is limited to 500 copies, with 150 copies on yellow vinyl, available as a Suction-direct-order exclusive.

can you ask Erik to release a double album of tracks like 012b - #005

Not releasing any double albums, but will be releasing many more 12"s... Have to look up that track to see if it's planned for release yet.

Last go-round we had 2 EPs and one album, with the album containing most of the tracks of the EPs but each release had some unique tracks.  I had the impression before that we'd have a similar structure for the next release, but the announcement doesn't mention any other releases.  Is this standalone?

Jason said in the other RX thread that there will indeed be a comp for volumes 3&4. Dunno then what holds vol. 4 back. Maybe the D'Arcangelo EP reissue has something to do with it, you know pressing etc. I'll wait for the comp for now and buy the standalone tracks then separately (unless the "delay" takes ages)... I'm so fooking glad I managed to get hold of the Erik SC tracks. Otherwise the wait for new volumes would kill me. Comparing Erik's SC to AFX dump wasn't an exaggeration. I've been playing the shit out of both dumps and still amazed of the quality of all those tracks. Just can't get enough.

Same format as last time... "EP 4" and an album (CD/digital) compiling tracks from EP3/4 + exclusives... We'll be releasing that in September. Bit of a delay between the 2 sets of releases this time, mainly because July and August are slow months for new releases, so I avoid them.

Glad you like the SC dump as much as I do... note though, that there are many tracks that are coming out on these releases that were not part of it. For example, I'm pretty sure that on EP 3, "101 Acid Power" was never on SC, and it is a BANGER!

Unless Erik posted a lot of tracks then took them down before I discovered the SC (which is possible, as I believe this was the case with August 97), then I'm pretty sure that I have at least 50 more tracks that were never on SC, and some of them are among the best IMO...

Any plans to release amabient stuff? On his sc profile there are a couple of great ones

Hey guys... would be great if we could keep this post mostly about "EP 3"... there is already an open thread here on the forum where I asked for suggestions for consideration of future RX-101 releases... starts on the 2nd or 3rd page here:

Anyway, yeah, we do plan to do an ambient album. But not sure if that would make sense on vinyl, ie not sure it's the ideal format for ambient/beatless stuff, or that it sells particularly well on vinyl. Def a CD/digital album though, and maybe a cassette.

Would definitely buy a cassette of his ambient stuff.

I've got 101 Acid Power but I guess the tracks with the actual titles (such as August '97 and quest for nothing etc.) were not downloadable so they are only rips. They are only 128 kbps anyway. Yet there are some duplicates between the first batch and the later batch(es) such as 013-A#003 = nervus ischiadicus and 011-A#001 = the invention of ideas (106 mix) and so on. But doesn't really matter what I already have since the final product you're putting out sounds better. I compared Gemini Launcher and the original 009-B#003 and the finished version sounds cleaner and better. So whatever you do with the tracks, well, good job :) But damn, September...have to see if I can keep myself waiting....hope this is not your new marketing plan (just kidding, just kidding)

Cheers... yeah, the improved sound quality is down to mastering! We work with a really great mastering engineer. Plus I'm sure the fact that we're mastering from WAVs and not 128kbps MP3s helps...

Our pressing plants takes about 2 months to turn around a vinyl release, which is actually faster than most! So the soonest we could get EP4 out would be July anyways, and like I say, July and August are months that I avoid putting out records..... so Sept it is!

  • 2 weeks later...

The yellow vinyl edition is now sold out... but we still have some copies of the standard black vinyl version avail on Bandcamp, plus it should start showing up in shops after June 20... Thanks for the support!

Posted another track from the forthcoming EP -- "101 Acid Power" ... this one was not part of the 100+ tracks that were up on Soundcloud when I discovered Erik's account. This was just before I asked him to take them all down so we could work on starting to release stuff... Anyway, someone else suggested that this was on there at some point, so I'm not sure.... either way, TOTAL BANGER ALERT!
