Shock The Monkey Remix Contest!
by Guest analogue wings- 20 replies

Download the sample pack and remix Peter Gabriels Shock The Monkey Well, I think I'ma have a crack at this one. Just cos it'll be fun playing around with all the Fairlight, LinnDrum and Prophet V sounds :on2long: Plus you can win some hardware thingy too. But that'll probably go to some crap that sounds like Enya, so I'm doing this for my own amusement  Anyone else gonna do this?

i know i can trigger a sample at different locations using 09** but can i map those locations to the keyboard? like load a drum loop as an instrument and then mapping the offsets to different keys, so instead of entering the key + 09** i could enter just the keys: c 03 c# 0a d 3e d# 4d e 9f e# 6b i usually don't work with whole loops just use recycle and chop up / export slices as waves i know i could import the sample a dozen times and then just trim it different for multiple keys, but that isn't any more convenient than recycle. optionally: is there something like 'export selection to new kit entry' or 'export selectio…

I wanna record Matmos playing live in L.A.
by Guest maantecaaa!!!- 5 replies

Matmos is going to be playing next month in L.A. at some recording studio. I'm thinking it's going to be somewhat informal so i'm going to email them and ask if it's ok to record the show. I've never done this type of thing before and have some questions: what type of mic should I use? would it be better to try to record off of the soundboard? can I use my ipod for this(i've heard it can be used for hi-def recordings)? and the most ridiculous question of all...in theory, if I recorded live from the audience point of view and have another recording coming from the soundboard, would it be possible to mix it in a way that you can use the balance settings on your stereo …

squarepusher IDM/Drill n Bass questions 1 2
by Guest mephistosup- 36 replies
- 3.3k views
Ok, I'm just wondering how, or what is the best way to get electronic music/Drill n bass style beats out of our Reason's/cubase etc. If you listen to something along the lines of aphex twins Bucephalus bouncing ball, or even squarepushers my red hot car, which you would have all clearly heard, how do we achieve something so complex? My knowledge in reason at the moment is pretty limited admitedly, I'm running reason 2.5 with a USB midi keyboard controller. I also have cubase, reaktor 5, and recycle. I've made some pretty hot stuff, but the beats are far, far too simplistic for my musically matured mind. I'm looking to create something along the electronic music …

poor man's Renoise keyboard
by Guest Adjective- 11 replies

so i'm playing with renoise lately and entering notes via the typey kind of keyboard. often i end up guessing which keys are which note, so i thought it was time for a sharpie mod. i just popped out each of the 'black' keys and sharpied the sides (not the tops, don't want inky fingers). so if you're poor... maybe this mod is for you my webcam sucks, here's an illustration:

need recording equipment, low budget.
by Guest No Pomo- 14 replies

Ok, so I want some decent quality music, and I have a pretty low budget (a few hundred dollars maybey). I don't really want to record straight to my computer: A. My soundcard isn't that superb B. my motherboard sucks (my USB connections, and microphone port are shit). So I want some kind of standalone device for recording, that I could then easily import to my computer. I would also need to get a microphone etc. for it. Please give me suggestions for a good set up.

well, down the road anyway. i want it to be like 80's, doesn't matter if it has keys or not but it has to have midi. it also has to be cheap. i don't want a juno or some shit. something obscure and dirty and fuzzy maybe an fm synth would be cool hook me up with some ideasi boys, Cheers.

idea for killer app
by Guest epsy- 4 replies
i posted this on kvr but wanted to get as much feedback as possible. seems like it would make having hands on control of your shit to stop on a dime using midi automation (which normally sucks) would make things go smooth for otto or 8fm type shit this might probably fall into one of those destroyfx categories for unique useful application, but I have an idea for a program that would function as a workaround for the lack of sample accuracy with midi automation. I don't know anything about coding, but how hard would it be to program a small app that allows the user to draw in automation and then bounces it offline, but that corrects the automation to sample accurate b…

PSOne or GBA midi music
by Guest The Bro- 3 replies

Just looking around on the internet to see if anyone has used a PSOne as a synthesizer or GBA. I've got a PSOne and a GBA and although I don't really need them I wondered if I could use them as standalone synthesizers hooked up via midi in my pc. They're pretty small units and so quite portable too which I think is a distinct advantage.

compression chain question
by Guest blicero- 3 replies

is it better to use a h/w compressor as a mono send/stereo rtn effect or should it be used on the stereo sum output of the mixing desk? i want to use it a compressor on my mix, but if it comes after the full summed mix of the mixing console, and i am monitoring from the mixing desk, how do i monitor the mix w/ compression? i could use it as an aux send in an fx chain, but then (1) the aux sends are mono, and therefore summed, losing the ability to apply slightly different compression to each stereo channel... and (2) the compression would have to br done as a difference... or whatever, meaning that it would be blended with the original audio signal, instead of b…

since apparently half of EKT owns at least 1 of these, i have some questions. how are they, and what is the difference between the various... uh... flavors? colors? i've played with the sampler a bit at a shop, it was good fun. but i don't like that you can't transfer audio to it. the ribbon controller/arppegiator seems like it would be good fun live. anyone ever perform with these?

okay, i'm making a movie about.. evaluating world culture or.. culture from another country or something.. and my group is doing this: the beginning scene fades in with a shot of a corner store, and then to a shot inside the store looking through an isle with the cashier doing his regular thing at the till. then a kid walks by looking side to side suspiciously, then there is a shot of a strange looking man standing by the wall with his arms crossed, watching the kid walk out the store, the next shot is the kid opening the door and coming out of the store with a smile on his face, he pulls out a chocolate bar or a cinnamon bun or whatever and is about to eat it …

Noob question
by Guest mephistosup- 10 replies

How do these exactly work? I'm not familiar with any programs apart from reason, but my understanding was this - VST is intergrated within cubase SX, and what you needed to do was load the patch into cubase and away you go. But it seems there's more to it that that. Basically I want a quick play with Bram's bouncy patch. So any help would be much appreciated. p.s. giving out a blowjob to the first person to answer my question safe xxxx

Reaktor tutorial instrument
by Guest ~Pd~- 12 replies

A synth - sampler - sequencer for teaching and learning This is an instrument I built as the hands-on component of a Reaktor tutorial for Virtual Instruments magazine. It's designed to help beginning Reaktor users - who already know how to create simple synths, for example - get a leg up into intermediate territory, where things start to get interesting. The layout is clear and simple, and anyone with a basic knowledge of Reaktor should have no problem finding his or her way around. The tutorial will be in the next issue of Virtual Instruments and should be on the newsstands towards the end of the month (i.e., end of August 2006). Virtual Instrume…

I'm asking this because the only noise I've heard is either sad, angry or generally dark sounding. I guess it comes down to the general lack of melodies, but do you think it'd be possible to make any noise sound happy? If so, let's do another Test Signal compilation! Let's do another one regarless!
