Anyone know a good way to get that nice reedy wind instrument sound out of a synth? Autechre used it a lot during the Chiastic Slide era if anyone needs an example of what I am talking about.

Atari ST

Greetings, For some years I've been using my Atari 1040STf with Cubase 2 as the main sequencer. But, somehow, I'm starting to feel that I should evolve. I've tried Ableton and it really rocks. Is there anyone here using the Atari ST as the main sequencer? Cheers

Hey all, I used to visit these forums about 4 years ago or so. I created a song titled IRON CHEF JAPANESE but I lost every copy I had. Does anybody have a copy of this song? I'd kill for it!

I'm planning on buying one, and I've heard all the samples on the official site and I've tried it in a store, but it's kinda hard to decide whether or not this is the synthesizer you want, when you can't bring it home with you. I've just been accepted in a band and I'm in charge of all the ambient tones and background noise, so I would be extremely happy if some of you could post some homemade synth ambient samples here in this topic for me to listen. Cheers!

does anyone here actually listen to old ekt tracks on a regular basis? or have they become a 'once only' thing? i notice i don't listen to them that much after the initial excitement, even with albums. though there are a few that have gone on to become some of my favourite electronic releases (wisp's stuff comes to mind, and also milieu). but other than that, i'm a little disappointed by how little i listen to ekt stuff really. even stuff i really like. how about you cunts? fuck?

I recently received a Thinkpad 600 and I want to incorporate it into my setup. Is there any way to sync up something like Rebirth on the Thinkpad to Ableton on my Mac? What kind of hardware will I need to do this? thanks tons, Thomas.

So... it's 500 USD... It has the dyno-my-piano preamp and eq 88 key... apparently in good condition... I don't know if it's stage or suitcase.... getting pictures tomorrow.... It's about an hour drive or so, so I'd like to be totally comitted before I go (obviously if it's total cack then I won't get it) Supposedly in tune and everything though... All legs and sustain pedal (leads me to believe it's stage) ....so... what's it worth? what should I look for? etc.... sorry to be so general. thanks you music makers.

For example, when you're programming in a drum beat on a MIDI track, why does there not appear to be an keyboard shortcut for muting certain notes instead of having to Right Click > Activate/Deactive Note(s)?? It's fucking annoying and time consuming having to do it in that manner.

Computer music. 1 2

So... I had some high hopes of making some music with my computer (can you believe it?!), and tried Max/MSP, thinking that it would give me the best creative control and interesting abilities. Ummm... so after not knowing what I was doing for a couple of hours, I am lead to think that making music with a computer involves annoying programs like FLoops and that mess. I hear all this nice music made by these nice folding boxes, and get really ticked off because it just looks like a long tunnel of Abeltons and .vsts is looming in front of me. Is this all there is? I really apologize for being such an annoying baby, but I figured that you lot would know more th…

Biggest update and overhaul ever... Includes: Recording in the Sample-Editor, which allows to create new samples on the fly, directly in Renoise. Signals can be either recorded cleanly (with no DSP FX), or be routed in realtime through any tracks DSP chain. Added a "#Line-In Device", which allows you to directly route any of your sound-cards physical input into a DSP chain in Renoise. Added a Mixer, for a fast access and total control of all used DSP effects and volume levels within Renoise. DSP effects can be easily accessed and modified (copied/pasted/ moved/deleted by keyboard shortcuts or drag'n'drop). Mini sliders (DSP parameter controls) can be o…

Finally, I got my M-Audio Midi Keyboard working again, but on the other hand it still doesn't work. Everytime I try to play something in Logic, it doesn't play the tones out loud. I can't hear the tones I'm playing, unless I play something at random because then it records my tones into the piano roll, but I can't play long tones either, plus it enters every tone as a quick stab. WTF?

Out-growing your mixer

i started out with a 4-track Tascam 414mkII. it has 4 inputs, plus an rca line-in, and 2 effect returns i used 1 hardware synth at a time, a line from my computer that had all the percussion plus some vst synths, and mostly used the effect sends and shit run some feedback loops through effects units and stuff later i got some drum machines, which both have 6-8 outputs each, plus more synths. so i got this Phonic 18 channel firewire mixer, but since then i've purchased a couple more machines and it's already completely full (plus i'm running the tascam into it as a sub-mixer) i've got like 30 lines i want to mix and only like 20 channels to hook them up to…

RMS power
by Guest Adjective- 3 replies

is there a free plug or something to analyze a soundfile and show the average RMS power for the track? i hear the term used when talking about 'the loudness war' and such. in samplitude there's a peakmeter that shows rms powr but it's kind of floating, like updating live. i want something simple that scans / summarizes or something.

How can I express how little I know about MIDI and all things MIDI related. Ableton's MIDI learn feature has definately put pay to that. So excuse me if this is one of the stupidest questions you've heard. Basically. I've got an Evolution X-Session MIDI controller. You've got the 16 controller knobs on it. When I move one it's got a range of 0 - 127 (which controls whichever MIDI CC # you have it assigned to etc etc etc). How do I change the range of that to...for example.... 0 - 90? I know it's possible because I've watched a friend do it, but he's not about at the moment and I need to know now. I've read the entire manual from back to front and it doesn…
